"I've known you the longest here, and the first thing you do when I warn you about someone, because I don't trust them, is doubt me?" His voice broke as he looked at Lars, his eyes filled with betrayal.
"I was there for you when Alis, the person who was like a mother to us, died. I was there when we were on the streets begging for food," Jalkr said as he stepped closer towards Lars, tapping him aggressively on his chest. Tears still streaming down his face.
"And don't give me the excuse that she isn't after that damn necklace, because even Chloe thinks the same! And yet..."
"Ha... you both just call me crazy and tell me to stop being paranoid..." Jalkr froze, his voice raspy as he slightly trembled. But because he was overwhelmed by his emotions, he didn't give up, continuing.
"I lied to you a second ago earlier... Lars, you're not my best friend, you're my brother."
"You're... the only family I have left in this world."
"Is it so hard to believe that I just don't want you to die?" he looked at Lars, his face waiting for a response.
But instead of responding, Lars just looked down, not knowing what to say.
"Damn it, at least say something!" Jalkr roared, grabbing Lars by the neck.
"Hehehe, I guess I'm the only one who thought that way." Jalkr forced those cold, empty words out of his mouth as he let go of Lars's collar.
"Whatever. Why should I even care about you anymore? You don't even see me as a brother, do you?" His words sounded more targeted as he bent down to pick up his spear.
"Guys, just stop already, OK!" Chloe finally chimed in. She looked at Jalkr. "I know we don't really get along, but for now, just deal with me until we get back, OK?"
Hearing this, everyone finally came back to their senses, remembering what situation they were in. The unsettling feeling returning along with the uncommon atmosphere.
Jalkr just stood there. He didn't say anything as he just stood there, looking at Chloe.
His eyelids slightly puffier than before from all the crying that he had done.
His eyes resolute. But if one truly stared into them, they would notice the faint bits of sadness hidden behind those eyes.
Not saying anything and just staring at her, he sighed lightly before moving.
He moved slowly, walking back to his original spot.
While this all happened, Harry took out a third shard as he started injecting his elkris into it.
Yes, unlike everyone else, he himself still remembered what kind of danger they were in.
So, this so-called argument they were having didn't even faze him as he covered his ears with earplugs, allowing himself to better concentrate.
In his opinion, what's the point of arguing in this situation if you don't know whether you're going to die or not?
On the other hand, Lars, who watched his brother finally let go of his collar and walk away from him, felt suffocated as he wasn't sure what to do.
These earlier turns of events had left his mind in a state of chaos. From the thought of something showing up to the now situation with his brother.
Everything had all been piling up in his mind, so his thoughts were a little scattered, but he knew what he had to do.
Even though it wasn't the best time to do this, he knew that if he didn't resolve things now, that he would forever lose his brother.
He slowly raised his arm, about to grab onto Jalkr's arm when he suddenly heard the voice of someone shouting again, but this time it wasn't a voice he recognised. The same went for everyone else except for one person... the old man.
The only one who seemed to recognise this voice turned a smile forming on his face as the memory of a kind youth appeared in his mind.
It was Aizer, the bastard prince himself.
But not seeing him, the old man frowned. Now that there was light, he could finally discern the face of his benefactor, but instead of seeing him, he just heard his voice trying to make out what the boy was saying.
Lars and the others were just about to put their guard up from the strange voice when they saw the old man they had been with smile as if he knew who the person was.
Hesitant, they lowered their guard but did not completely drop it. After Chloe's reminder, the unease and fear that they had all but forgotten had undeniably come back to them, this time worse than ever.
The old man, still clueless about how dangerous a place he was in, still listened attentively, trying to make out his benefactor's words.
Although muffled by the continuous panting at the start, he finally managed to decipher what the boy was saying as he looked into the darkness.
But what he heard made him frown again. That was until he finally saw the person he considered his benefactor.
The boy was shouting, screaming as he ran as though his life depended on it.
"OLD MAN, IF YOU CAN HEAR ME, RUN, OR WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE!"
He screamed at the top of his lungs... his voice being heard by all.
A 20ft monster accompanied him from behind. Everyone, including Lars, went pale.
