There was nothing to do but sit and wait for time to pass. Even after scrolling through her phone for hours, Tahra couldn't help but wonder if that was how her new life was going to turn out.
'I can't do this! I just can't!' Tahra thought to herself with a light frown on her face, wondering what the others did to kill the boredom that threatened to envelope her on all sides.
But still, she sat there counting down the hours until finally only 1 remained.
By then her legs had already grown still and she had walked around the perimeter of the small part of the wall she had been told to guard more than 50 times.
'Please! Let this torture be over!' Tahra sighed to herself realizing why anyone would see border patrol as the punishment it was.
But she was still mentally counting down in her mind, trying to keep her sanity when she suddenly heard a loud thump from a few steps beside her.
Tahra instantly thought nothing of it. Which stupid intruder would dare jump over the walls in daylight'
Still, she raised her head trying to see what it was only for her mouth to fall open as she saw a person in a black hood raise himself straight to his full height.
A surprising sight that was even more surprising when she recognized the face of the person in front of her.
"Za-zane?" she stammered in shock, wondering if someone could have possibly worn his face to deceive her.
But she had just spoken when Zane, shook off the black hood that covered his head to reveal his black hair. His blue eyes unmistakable as he fixed them on her.
"Do you have any idea how difficult it was to find where you were assigned and the exact place? I don't think I've ever worked this hard in my life,"
Tahra would have been lying if she said that she wasn't delighted to see him. Her heart leaping in her chest the second she set her eyes on him.
Only for despair to slowly creep in as she realized that the same person in front of her was the same one that had banished her from her home.
"Why should I care?"
"You make it sound like something I should be grateful for. As Alpha, you know they'll kill you if they see you right?" Tahra asked finding it difficult to understand why he would bother risking his life to cross the wall.
'What message could be so important that he had to deliver it himself'
"Yeah, thats why I spent 6 hours scaling the area. Most of the border personnels only kept watch for the first three hours, before they congregated together, no longer minding the wall. Everyone but you!"
Tahra couldn't help but feel a little annoyed to realize that she had been the only one that took the job seriously.
"I get it though. Our border patrols do the same unless something important happens," Zane explained plopping to the ground with a small smile at the edge of his lips as he stared at Tahra who continued to maintain a reasonable distance from him.
"Its nice to see you!" Zane softly told her to which Tahra refused to respond and simply continued to stare at him in silence.
"You look good!"
"You look like you're eating well,"
"Your skin is also--"
"Its only been one day," Tahra snapped in annoyance, realizing that Zane would simply continue to say nonsense if she allowed him.
"Yeah, but I've miss--"
"CUT THE CRAP!! Why are you here? You do know that they'll immediately move to kill you the second you're since. Especially because you're Alpha,"
"Right before they kill me, because of my betrayal!" Tahra pointed out, wondering what was going through his mind for him to travel all the way there and spend all those hours trying to find her.
"They won't find me, I made sure of it!" Zane replied, his attention shifting between their environement and Tahra who continued to maintain the distance between them something he couldn't fault her for.
"I;m sorry! I'm sorry Tahra! I know you--"
"Just leave Zane and take your apologies with you! Don't come here pretending to care after rejecting me in front of the whole pack! You're no longer my mate!" Tahra snapped at him only to watch Zane do nothing more but frown before he immediately began to speak.
"I care about you Tahra, you know I do! Why do you think I came all the way--"
"Who knows for the thrill? For the pleasure of seeing me sufferring in the--" Tahra began to speak after interrupting him only to be interrupted in turn.
"I came because I was worried! Of all the territories you had to pick territory A? Alpha Ahshe is the worst! Havn't you heard--"
"I have absolutely nothing to do with him. But right now, he's my Alpha and even if I wanted to, I'm stuck here for the next three months!" Tahra replied, biting down the urge to mention that he was her mate, especially since the new mate in question held nothing but dislike towards her.
"True! You really do have to stay here for three more months before you can leave! Still, terriotory X would have been--"
"Really Zane? Really?" Tahra cut in, feeling her eyes water a little as she bit her lips and stared at Zane with a disgusted expression on her face.
"Not once have you mentioned recinding my banishment, not once! god! You're really the--"
"I can't do that right now! The pack is not safe!"
Tahra merely chuckled and nodded her head, with a mocking expression on her face.
"Right! It safe for everyone else but me right?"
"Get out Zane! Jump back over the wall where you came or so help me, I'll scream and alert everyone closeby that the alpha of Z pack, is here to attack!" Tahra told him in an icy tone as she glared at him, taking a few steps back to put more distance between them.
