Chapter 9 - CHAPTER 9: MY NAME IS RAVENNA

The loud cry of a baby pierced the silent atmosphere in the river, drawing the attention of a young woman close by.

' what she was doing in the river at that hour was a story for another day.

She gently sauntered into the river searching for the crying baby, and she was left astonished by what she saw.

Inside the river was green dancing stream of lights, gently gliding back and forth in all directions, like veins. She spotted a baby in the midst of the light floating gently with the waves. She rushed to rescue the crying child and was furthermore surprised by another disturbing sight.

" what in the world...." She gasped looking at the deep wound on the baby's chest, blood gently sipped out. The wound was so deep, enough to kill the child, but the woman could tell that there was more to this child, if not she wouldn't still be alive despite the wound. Infact the green dancing light was proof, though it had long disappeared the moment she took the child out of the water.

The baby's cry intensified and the young woman ran off with the child to quickly find treatment.

The scene change like ink being dropped into water.

And on the ground, at the edge of a cliff laid Raven, with Ryles looming over him, a sword in his hand, with half of it already driven into Raven's stomach.

" I'm sorry but you have to die " Ryles' cold voice gave him goosebumps. And the next minute, Raven found himself slipping off the edge of the cliff and into the dark.

'SPLASH' He felt water roughly swallowing and filling him.

.......

" GASP" A young girl woke up with a gasp, eyes wide in fear. She just had a nightmare of her being stabbed and thrown into water. The feeling was horrible. Her green eyes took in her environment, which was completely unfamiliar. A small but cozy room with just one window and a comfortable bed. Her brows creased in worry, flinging off the sheets she got out of bed, only to suddenly flinch at the stab of pain from her abdomen. Looking down she realized she was naked and quickly grabbed the sheets to cover herself. Before peeking at her abdomen again, there was a tightly wrapped white cloth around her waist as if covering a deep wound.

she became even more confused,

'wasn't it just a nightmare?' she pondered.

' Had whatever she dreamt of really happened to her?' she was confused.

strangely she couldn't remember anything, no matter how much she tried.

' And where was she? ' confusion gripped her furthermore. Climbing the bed gently she peeked out the window to have an idea of what exactly was going on or where she was.

Someone grabbed her from behind.

" you'll tear open your wound again " A soft voice spoke . she whipped her head around to see who it was, shrinking away from the person. It was a girl, she looked younger than her.

" it's alright, you are safe here" she reassured, seeing the injured girl shrink back in weariness. The young girl had a goofy grin on but she was still weary of her.

" oh crap! " She suddenly jolted as if remembering something. " Mother she's awake!" the young girl loudly exclaimed while running towards her mother. She had forgotten for a moment that her mother had instructed to call for her as Soon as the girl gained consciousness.

Few minutes later, both mother and daughter rushed into the room, with the girl carrying a bowl and others stuff, for treatment.

" How do you feel?" The older woman gently approached the girl in bed.

" Where am i ? " she asked confusion rolling off of her. A raspy dry cough escaped her mouth, the young girl immediately offered her water.

" somewhere safe" was the woman's only reply , her eyes observing the girl.

" What's your name?" after staring for sometime the woman finally asked. she had seen something strange on the girl's body which had her curious.

" My name..." she trailed off realising she didn't even remember her own name.

" Ravenna!" The woman called slowly, testing the waters and sure enough the girl's eyes snapped to meet hers in wonderment. The name sounded familiar, too familiar.

" is that your name? " The woman asked.

A faint image of a woman calling her Ravenna, flashed in her memories, and her head spun.

She groaned,

" How did you know my name?" she was confused, nothing was making sense yet, the name triggered a memory. The woman had already predicted her loss of memory as it looked like she had survived a huge fall.

"There's a tattoo on your back" she said while moving closer to examine, the girl whose widened after hearing of the tattoo.

" you need to eat and get some rest, you haven't fully recovered". The woman, signalled for her daughter to bring the food and herbs in.

Ravenna stared at the woman with so many questions buzzing in her head

" you have questions, don't you?" The woman stared into her green eyes, they were easy to read, just as she had predicted.

' Once again fate had played it's part, ' the woman thought to herself, as her eyes drifted towards the wide hole in the girl's chest.

she knew exactly what it meant as she was also one of the reasons things were as they were now...
