Chapter 16 - Chapter 16: Big Harvest

Back in the central part of the cave, Kent began reviewing the system records to tally his gains from the battle.

Killing eight NPC mercenaries, most of whom were above level 15, plus the elite monster equivalent dog, and adding the 25% experience bonus from Gluttony, earned him a significant amount of experience points. The massive amount of experience points allowed him to level up twice, reaching level 14.

In addition, devouring the mercenaries' equipment and the resources they left behind in the cave also boosted his attributes significantly.

In *Immortal*, equipment is classified into: Common, Fine, Classic, Perfect, Heroic, Epic, Legendary, and Mythical. Fine equipment is equivalent to Rare resources and can trigger the Gluttony effect. However, even though the Merciful Team was relatively wealthy, they couldn't afford full Fine equipment for everyone; each member had only two or three pieces of Fine gear.

The Common equipment was practically useless to Kent and took up too much space in his internal storage, so he buried it in the cave.

During the battle, Kent devoured the Fine equipment from the shield guard, the greatsword user, and the lance knight, along with the discarded resources, gaining 0.9 points in Constitution, 0.3 points in Agility, 13 points in Physical Resistance, and 8 points in Magic Resistance.

However, he realized that devouring equipment wasn't very cost-effective. For instance, the "Hundred-Forge Iron Heavy Armor" from the shield guard gave him attributes similar to a Rare resource. But the armor sold for 100 silver coins in shops, while Rare resources generally sold for around 50 silver coins.

It was a considerable loss. If he could sell the equipment in a town, he could buy many Rare resources with the proceeds. This made him cautious; in subsequent battles, he didn't directly devour the mercenaries' equipment and weapons but stored them in his internal space instead.

He made an exception for boots, as devouring Fine boots usually increased his Agility by 0.1 points, so he devoured all eight pairs.

Additionally, he devoured the oversized bison dual shields and the finely forged white steel greatsword, as these two items took up too much space, gaining 0.4 points in Strength, 3 points in Physical Resistance, and 1 point in Magic Resistance.

The remaining Fine equipment included: the priest's "Glowing Staff" and "Pure White Robe," the mage's "Explosive Staff" and "Tranquil Robe," the dual-axe warrior's "Butcher's Axes" and "Hundred-Forge Iron Soft Armor," the old hunter's "Eagle Eye Headband" and "Windbreaker Bow," the young hunter's "Exquisite Leather Armor" and "Silver Longbow," and the lance knight's "Steel Knight's Lance."

Though Kent, as a beast, couldn't go to human towns to sell the equipment, he kept it just in case. It's worth noting that the system panel had a trading module that wasn't unlocked yet. Once the game officially launched, he might be able to trade with players.

Moreover, the space ring on the young hunter's hand was a pleasant surprise, adding three cubic meters to his internal space upon devouring. Inside, he found five intermediate healing potions, three intermediate mana potions, eight primary antidotes, three intermediate antidotes, and 187 silver coins, and 573 copper coins. The potions aside, the money was also a significant gain.

The Continent of Immortal had a history of unified empires, leading to universally accepted weights and measures. The exchange rate between copper, silver, and gold coins was 1000:1. Five copper coins could buy a large mug of beer in a tavern, 200 copper coins could buy the cheapest Common equipment, and 500 copper coins could pay for a decent night with a street girl, indicating significant purchasing power.

Once the trading module was unlocked, he could exchange these equipment and coins for resources, leading to a substantial boost!

After tallying his gains, Kent lay down, satisfied, looking at his attribute panel.

[Species: Giant Wasteland Dragon Lizard | Rank: Red-Named Elite | Level: 14 (Experience: 1708/ )]

[Health Points: / | Mana Points: 2100/2100 | Stamina: 1668/1668]

He believed it wouldn't be long before he caught up with or even surpassed level 20 David.

With that thought, Kent chuckled and went to sleep, hoping to continue his pleasant dreams.

Unbeknownst to him, David, whom he was thinking about, wasn't having a good time.

On the edge of the Giant Lizard Forest, in the dense woods, a scene of devastation unfolded. Thick bushes were violently destroyed, leaving them scattered and broken. The ground was littered with scales and broken arrows. Scorching blood couldn't suppress the grass, only flowing down the stems and finally seeping into the soil.

The leader of the Thieves' Guild, hunter Rexar, looked grim as he faced dozens of wasteland dragon lizards surrounding him, with a giant wasteland dragon lizard protected behind them.

"Just a bit more! We almost killed that giant wasteland dragon lizard!"

The scout from the team, full of unwillingness, lamented, "How is this possible? Wasn't this beast defeated in the leader contest? Why are wasteland dragon lizards still protecting it?"

Their team had suffered an unprecedented casualty rate to hunt this heavily injured giant wasteland dragon lizard.

Not far away, in the shattered thicket, lay the greedy assassin, forever still. The thief, who usually looked pale as if chronically ill, now had a severed arm and a complexion even whiter than snow.

Hunter Rexar glanced at the giant wasteland dragon lizard, which was now too exhausted to continue its attack. He then looked at the severely injured thief, gritting his teeth as he made a decision:

"Retreat! Amo, take Akun and leave first. I'll cover the rear."

Seeing the despicable hairless apes retreating, David sighed in relief, his heart warmed by the sight of the female dragon lizards approaching. He hadn't expected that, even after being defeated by a younger rival, his tribe would still come to protect him.

Wait a minute, something was off. Very off. Why were all these tribe members eyeing his basket so intently?

The predatory gazes of the female dragon lizards grew more intense as they closed in. David's face turned increasingly pale.

No! I've been seriously injured; I'm genuinely weak!

No!

The terrified roar of the giant wasteland dragon lizard echoed through the lizard forest.
