Chereads / The Heartbeat Of A Monster / Chapter 6 - In Common

Chapter 6 - In Common

Ariana Grande's new album, eternal sunshine, was blasting from her headphones as she took inventory of all the new books they received this morning, watching her coworker David arrange them neatly on the wooden shelves.

She smiled when her favorite song began to play, moving in her chair to the lovely rhythm of the boy is mine song and typing away on the computer. She took a moment to pause the music when she felt something was off.

Taking off her headphones and pausing the music playing on her iPhone, "David?"

David peeped through one of the spaces between two books to look at her. His deep green eyes asking her what's wrong.

"Is it just me, or is the place getting hotter by the minute?"

David nodded as he felt it too. "I think the air conditioner is faulty."

"Again?" Ebony's hazel eyes frowned at the thought of saving up to repair the damn thing. God knows their boss, aka the owner of Fictional World library wouldn't spend a penny to fix it if it's faulty again. He can be that stingy. If not for them being more than good workers and generous in this small library, this library would have fallen apart a long time ago. She is tired of their customers complaining about this or that. Or that their toilet is not hygienic enough for public use.

"I'm not sure Ebony. I'll go take a look at it."

"Please do. Thank you, David!" She called as he disappeared down the row to the wall where the cheap and old-fashioned air conditioner was placed. She put back her headphones on and was about to continue with her music when the door opened and her favorite group of high school gossip queens strode in laughing and giggling to one another.

She quickly shoved her headphones down the drawers of her desk to pay attention to them as usual.

Slim waist, 100percent. Cheekbones, could cut through diamonds. Bright eyes, very pointed nose, slim neck and chest with thin long legs that added so much to their height. They look like queens. Perfect as usual with their skimpy skirts and body hug gowns.

Wow. How were they able to wiggle their body into something so tight? Could it be because of their sliminess and perfection?

Do they exercise regularly or watch what they eat?

Her question was answered when one girl from their groups handed over large cups of milkshakes to each of them. Intentionally ignoring the no food or water signal over their pretty heads. They all settled down the comfy chairs and table they had for those who would like to stay and read instead of buying or burrowing a book. It is actually the only chair and table their stingy boss could afford. And it is also old-fashioned. She wondered how it was able to accommodate all six of them. Could it be because of their slender forms? She was just too obsessed about them. Majorly every girl she sees that fits perfectly to her dream look and form.

Are they also intelligent?

They always spend their first day of the weekend at their mini library. Well, not to read. They come here to break the rules about not eating or bringing any food in. To make noise with their laughter and silly talks about their mates, boys and soon to be boyfriends. They also used to have a good deal of talk about makeups and other girly stuffs. They are never empty of gist and latest gossips.

That's right.

If you want to know all about this town's latest gossips, you can hear it from them in details. They basically know what's going on in everybody's lives. Even if it comes to the redeemed fallen angels, celebrities, and the ones at the top of the pyramids. What the angels are up to and if Michael really did tell the house of Mammon some nasty shits about the devil.

They continued laughing as she leaned close to hear them better. Waiting for them to bring up a particular individual.

"Oh my god, did you guys see what's trending on the demonic media online?"

"You mean the demonic news.com?"

"Yeah, that one, Ashley. Thanks, babe."

"No problem."

"What about it?" The princess who dyed her hair all the bright shades of barbie asked, interested.

"It's about that insane and unnaturally hot, sexy demon lord that lives up that beautiful mansion on the hill."

That was it. Ebony quickly fished out her notebook and pen and tried her best not to make it obvious that she was listening in on their conversation.

"Are you guys talking about Rayven? The beauty magnet demon lord?"

They all paused to take in a deep breath of satisfaction as they remembered just how gorgeous he is.

"He is literally making a lot of us breathless on the streets when a pic of him leaked on the internet. Everyone has not gotten over it yet."

"Yeah. Every girl is replacing their boyfriend's pics on their phone with his. And it is totally crazy. I wonder how that sneaky member of the media got that pic."

Ebony's mouth moved in displeasure at other girls moaning over that pic of his.

Curses to that sneaky reporter!

"I heard that his elder brother is doing all that he can to get that pic off the internet for good. It's like they don't even want us to know that he exists."

"Oooh, that's really creepy."

They all nodded. Ebony played with her pen also in thought. There must be a reason for that. There's always got to be a reason for everything.

"I find it even more insane. Apart from him not ever stepping out in public except that one time. He was fucking putting on a mask and dressed up like a freaking medieval vampire prince out to drain everyone's blood! I hear it is his brother who does every, single thing for him while he crawls up to his room locked in darkness and cry all day."

"I heard he never stepped out that time, they were all just rummors. It's not confirmed yet."

"Someone told me he doesn't feed on the synthetic blood demons feed on to survive."

They all gasp. Even Ebony froze in her seat. The girl telling the story leaned closer and spoke softer as if she would rather not be heard saying what she was about to say next.

"I heared he partners up with psychopaths and serial killers from around the world to drain women of their blood where a truck of it is being stored in his basement, and he feeds on it like the monster he is!"

"Jesus!" One girl covered her mouth in disbelief.

Interesting. Ebony quickly jotted that down. Ignoring the look of terror on the girl's faces.

"You have got to to be kidding me, right?"

"Facts from the demonic news.com. You could go see it for yourselves. He is way sicker than you could all imagine. Do not be carried away by the rumors of his unearthly looks but the ugliness of his dead heart."

They all frowned in distaste and took breaks to sip on their large cups of milkshake.

Ebony paused to think about it. He could not be that bad.

She smiled, writing more things about him. Apart from partnering up with serial killers to do the unspeakable that she didn't believe of him being capable of doing…the other information she was able to jot down about him just shows a helpless monster in need of redemption.

Her redemption.

Her smile grew bigger.

"Wait, did you guys also hear that he paints?"

Painting?

Ebony quickly penned that down.

"For real. And very excellent in it. He also likes to stare at the sky. I think it is the stars or constellations. I'm not sure."

Ebony's smile even got wider as she flipped through her previous pages about him and found what she was looking for.

It is the moon.

He loves the moon.

One thing we have in common.
