Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

"Arrival"

We all dashed into the trenches as soon as possible so as to avoid being spotted and our positions being dialed in by the Separatist Artillery Crews, As we all entered the trench we were greeted by the not so pleasant sight of sandbags scattered on the floors, rifle magazines, spent bullet casings, it was a pure mess. Ashton spoke up soon after.

"Everyone, dump your equipment in your own sleeping pods, Elliot and Oakley, You're on guard duty."

Me and Elliot looked at each other, nodding as we then stepped up into this makeshift bunker, made of sandbags with a camouflage net on top of it, the sandbags weren't collapsing thanks to the help of the wooden planks which were added for support. I set my rifle down onto the sandbags and kept looking.

My post was on the westernmost side of the position, whilst Elliots was on the easternmost side, our only form of communication was either by a radio or just shouting across the trench. Hours and hours passed as I kept watch on my post, My legs were starting to ache after about 30 minutes. Fortunately for me, Prince brought me a chair which he found. He placed it down behind me and I took a seat gracefully, my eyes just peeking above the sandbags. I looked up at Prince who was crouched down on my right.

"So then, first thoughts about being out here?" I said.

"I expected it to be shit, and I was not wrong."

"For once you got something right."

"Oh shut up, dipshit."

"Hahaha.. Sorry, Taking the piss out of you is all I can do."

"I'm gonna shoot you in your sleep."

"Not if I do it first."

We both looked at each other and simply laughed, I jokingly punched Prince's shoulder.

"So then.. How long do you think we'll be here for?" Prince spoke up, he didn't sound scared at all, he sounded quite curious.

"I think everyone you ask will give the same answer as i'll give, No clue."

"Heh, I should stop asking that question, shouldn't i?"

"Perhaps.."

Prince and I both simply talked to each other for the next few hours, before we knew it, The sun was starting to set and my shift was over. I got up from the chair and made my way to my sleeping pod which was quite frankly, it was even worse than i expected it to be. It was simply a hole dug into the side of the trench with a blanket and that was it, nowhere else to store my equipment other than the hole from across.

I laid down my equipment on the hole from across, I was wise enough to keep my body plate carrier and helmet on me, I stretched my arms after finally being free from most of the clunky and heavy equipment I had on me.
