Chapter 8 - Chapter 8 Calling for Help in the Forest

As night fell, the light in the forest became dim, and the shadows of the trees swayed, as if countless unknown dangers were lurking. Various strange insect sounds came one after another, sometimes high-pitched, sometimes low, sometimes rapid, and sometimes slow, like a spell from ancient times, adding a touch of weird atmosphere to this silent night.

Dr. Ebert followed the direction of the sound, cautiously pushed away the branches and vines in front of him, and walked forward with one deep step and one shallow step. He didn't know what was waiting for him, but the impulse in his heart to help others drove him to keep moving forward.

"Help! Help!"

The voice came again, this time clearer and more urgent. Obviously, the person calling for help was in danger.

Dr. Ebert quickened his pace, and he held the cane in his hand tightly. The cane he brought from the laboratory, which was originally used to support him for long experiments, now became his only weapon for self-defense. He was alert and carefully observed the surrounding environment, fearing that he would miss any clues and guarding against possible dangers.

The trees around him became denser and denser, and the light became dimmer and dimmer. Dr. Ebert felt as if he had walked into a huge maze, full of unknowns and dangers.

After passing through a dense bush, Dr. Ebert's eyes suddenly opened up.

He saw that in an open space not far away, a huge black shadow was pressing on another smaller figure, and he could vaguely hear the sound of struggle and cry for help.

With the weak moonlight, Dr. Ebert saw the smaller figure clearly. It was a young man. He was in tattered clothes and had many scars on his body. He had obviously experienced a fight. At this moment, he was lying on the ground powerlessly, being pressed down by the huge black shadow and unable to move.

"Stop! What are you doing?!" Dr. Ebert shouted loudly, and rushed forward quickly.

Hearing Dr. Ebert's voice, the huge black shadow stopped and slowly turned his head. With the weak moonlight, Dr. Ebert saw its appearance clearly.

It was a huge beast with black fur, sleek and shiny, as if wearing a black armor; it had sharp claws and fangs, flashing cold light in the moonlight, as if it could easily tear any prey apart; it also had a pair of eyes flashing with fierce light, like two burning flames, which made people shudder.

Seeing Dr. Ebert, the beast let out a low roar, like a muffled thunder, echoing in the silent forest, making Dr. Ebert's eardrums buzz. It opened its bloody mouth, revealing sharp fangs, and the fishy smell came to his face, as if warning him not to meddle in other people's business.

However, Dr. Ebert was not intimidated by its momentum. He stood there bravely and confronted the beast.

"Let him go! Otherwise, don't blame me for being rude!" Dr. Ebert warned again. At the same time, he quietly reached into his pocket and tightly grasped the cold ancient statue that gave him strength.
