When Su Xiang and her companions reached the appropriate level of the Pit, they were met by a strange sight, or at least, strange to the people who had spent their entire lives in Silver Sword City. A large counter was staffed by several first-stage cultivators and twice as many mortals, and all of them acted with the same decorum one would expect from the staff of a grand inn.
Behind the counter, however, a slate board was constantly being updated by a group of mortals. The board contained neat rows with precisely written characters and numbers, listing the schedule of fights, the odds placed on each wager, the number of people who had died in combat so far today, this week, and this month along with notations about placing bets for correctly guessing the final figure. The gruesome events taking place in the bloody arenas were all neatly summarized here, in crisp, white chalk on dark slate.
