Chapter 49: The Will of a..... Hus- ?!

---

The group continued their journey from where they had left off, the air around them thick with anticipation and a sense of the unknown. The path ahead led them through a dense forest, where the trees seemed to whisper secrets in a language only they could understand. The ground beneath their feet was soft, covered in a blanket of leaves that muffled their footsteps, as if nature itself was urging them to proceed with caution.

After hours of trekking, the landscape began to change. The trees thinned out, giving way to rocky terrain. In the distance, a colossal mountain loomed, its peak hidden by swirling mists. The sight of it sent a shiver down Alex's spine—a mixture of awe and the foreboding realization that their journey was far from over.

"Looks like we've found our next challenge," Mark remarked, shading his eyes with his hand as he gazed up at the mountain.

"It's massive," Jenny said, her voice tinged with both admiration and concern. "How are we supposed to climb that?"

"Magic, I suppose," Sarah suggested with a shrug, though her tone was less confident than usual.

CV, ever practical, was already scanning the mountain's surface with her AI sensors. "There's a path, but it's not easy. We'll need to combine physical strength with magic to reach the top."

Alex nodded, his mind focused. "We don't have a choice. Whatever we're looking for is up there."

Without further delay, they began the ascent. The climb was arduous, testing both their endurance and their teamwork. CV used her abilities to create footholds where the rocks were too steep, while Sarah used her magic to clear obstacles. Mark and Jenny took turns leading the way, their strength and agility helping them navigate the most difficult sections.

The higher they climbed, the thinner the air became, making each breath a struggle. But they pressed on, driven by the knowledge that their quest depended on reaching the peak.

Finally, after what felt like an eternity, they emerged at the top. The view was breathtaking—a vast expanse of sky and clouds stretching out in all directions. But it wasn't the view that captured their attention. It was the portal.

It stood in the center of the peak, a shimmering oval of light, crackling with energy. It pulsed with a power that was both inviting and ominous, as if beckoning them to step through yet warning them of the unknown that lay beyond.

"This is it," Alex said, his voice barely above a whisper.

Jenny approached the portal cautiously, her hand hovering over the edge of the light. "Should we go in?"

"Not yet," CV interjected, her tone firm. "We need to rest first. We don't know what's on the other side."

Alex agreed. "We should be at full strength before we proceed. Let's set up camp here and take a break."

They set up a small camp near the portal, close enough to keep it in sight but far enough to feel somewhat safe. The group was silent, each lost in their thoughts as they ate and tended to their wounds from the climb. The atmosphere was tense, the portal a constant reminder of the unknown challenge that awaited them.

Just as they were beginning to relax, the portal flared with a sudden intensity. Before anyone could react, they were all pulled toward it by an unseen force. It was as if the portal had grown impatient, refusing to wait any longer. The world around them blurred, and they were sucked into the light.

The sensation was disorienting, as if they were being twisted and turned inside out. When the world finally settled, they found themselves in a vast, ethereal space that seemed to stretch on forever. The ground beneath them was solid, yet it shimmered like glass, reflecting the sky above—a sky filled with stars that were too bright, too close.

In the center of this space stood a figure—a woman of extraordinary beauty and presence. Her form was translucent, like she was made of pure light, yet she carried an aura of ancient wisdom and power. Her eyes, however, were her most striking feature, glowing with a soft, otherworldly light that seemed to see right through them.

Stella studied him for a moment, her expression unreadable. Then, with a wave of her hand, the Wish Crystal materialized in front of Alex, glowing softly.

"So, you possess the Wish Crystal," Stella said, more to herself than to Alex. "That explains why you're here."

Alex stepped forward, his gaze fixed on Stella. "We've come for the fragment. But first… who are you? And what is your connection to the Wish Crystal?"

"I am Stella," the woman introduced herself, her voice echoing softly in the vastness. "The Guardian of the Sixth World Fragment."

Stella began to explain, her voice calm yet filled with a weight of centuries. She spoke of the Base Entity—the primordial force that balanced the universe, the one who created the rules that all beings, mortal and divine, were bound to follow. She spoke of the world fragments, pieces of the Base Entity itself, scattered across dimensions and guarded by chosen beings, like herself.

"Each fragment holds a part of the Base Entity's power," Stella explained. "And each guardian is tasked with protecting it until the time comes for them to be reunited. But to do so, the one who seeks them must prove their worth."

Alex listened intently, the pieces of the puzzle slowly coming together in his mind. "So, what do I have to do to prove myself?"

Stella gave a small, almost sad smile. "There are tests. Thirty-two tests of life, each designed to challenge different aspects of your being. But the first test…" She hesitated, as if considering whether to reveal the nature of the trial. "The first test is of the heart."

Before Alex could respond, Stella waved her hand, and the scene around them shifted. Alex felt himself pulled into another reality, one that seemed eerily familiar. He was no longer in the ethereal space but in a warm, cozy home. He recognized the place immediately—it was his home with CV.

But something felt off. The warmth was too comforting, the atmosphere too perfect. He looked around, seeing CV busy in the kitchen, humming a tune. Everything seemed normal, yet Alex couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss.

He tried to remember where he had just been, but the memories were foggy, as if they were slipping away. His focus was drawn back to CV, who was now calling him to join her for dinner. He walked over, but his mind was elsewhere, trying to piece together the fragmented memories.

Suddenly, a soft voice echoed in void, one that wasn't CV's. It was Stella's. "This is your first test, Alex. The Will of a Husband. But you will not remember it as a test. Be true to yourself, and you may find the answers you seek."

The test had begun, and Alex, unaware of its nature, was about to face a challenge that would test the very core of his heart.
