Chapter 50: The Will Of… Hus- ?! - Part 2

---

The evening sun cast a warm, golden glow over the cozy living room where Alex and CV sat together. The setting was idyllic, a perfect picture of domestic bliss. CV was nestled beside Alex, her head resting gently on his shoulder as they watched a documentary on the TV. Everything felt serene, peaceful—almost too perfect.

Yet, beneath the surface of this calm, Alex felt an odd, persistent sense of unease. It was as if something was out of place, though he couldn't quite put his finger on what it was. His mind drifted back to earlier in the day, trying to recall the events that had led him here. But the memories were hazy, like trying to grasp water with his hands.

"Alex?" CV's voice broke through his thoughts, soft and filled with concern.

"Hm?" He turned to her, blinking away the fog in his mind.

"You seem distracted. Is everything okay?" Her eyes searched his face, trying to read the emotions he couldn't quite hide.

Alex forced a smile, not wanting to worry her. "Yeah, I'm fine. Just… thinking about some things."

CV didn't seem convinced, but she didn't press further. Instead, she leaned in closer, her warmth a comforting presence against his side. "You know you can tell me anything, right?"

"Of course," he replied, wrapping an arm around her shoulders. "I guess I'm just tired. It's been a long day."

CV smiled, though a flicker of doubt crossed her eyes. "Well, if you need to rest, we can go to bed early tonight."

Alex nodded, grateful for her understanding. But even as he held her close, the feeling of unease gnawed at him, refusing to be ignored.

They finished watching the documentary, and after a quiet dinner, Alex found himself lying in bed beside CV. The room was dark, illuminated only by the soft glow of the moonlight filtering through the curtains. CV had fallen asleep quickly, her breathing slow and even. But Alex remained awake, his mind racing with thoughts he couldn't fully grasp.

He turned onto his back, staring up at the ceiling. *Why do I feel like this?* he wondered. *Why does everything feel… wrong?*

His thoughts were interrupted by a sudden, vivid memory—a memory of Stella, the Guardian of the Sixth World Fragment. Her voice echoed in his mind: "This is your first test, Alex. The Will of a Husband. But you will not remember it as a test. Be true to yourself, and you may find the answers you seek."

The memory hit him like a bolt of lightning, and suddenly, everything made sense. This wasn't just an ordinary evening at home—this was a test. A test designed to challenge his heart, to see if he was truly loyal to CV or if there was something deeper, something unspoken that could sway his devotion.

The realization left him breathless. He knew now that nothing he was experiencing was real, but it felt real. The warmth of CV beside him, the comfort of their home—everything was designed to lull him into complacency. To make him question himself.

*But why this test?* he thought. *What's the point of making me doubt my own feelings?*

As if in response to his thoughts, the room began to shift. The walls seemed to breathe, expanding and contracting like living things. The darkness deepened, and the shadows stretched, reaching out toward him.

Alex sat up, his heart pounding. "What's happening?"

Suddenly, CV stirred beside him, her eyes fluttering open. But when she looked at him, there was something different in her gaze—something almost… calculating.

"Alex," she said, her voice smooth and calm, yet carrying an undercurrent of something he couldn't place. "Why are you so tense? You know you can trust me, right?"

He hesitated, the words catching in his throat. This wasn't the CV he knew—this was part of the test, part of the illusion. But how could he respond? If he played along, would he be giving in to the test? And if he resisted, what would that prove?

"Of course I trust you," he said slowly, trying to keep his voice steady. "I just… feel like something's off."

CV's eyes narrowed slightly, and she sat up, facing him fully. "Off? What do you mean?"

"I don't know," Alex admitted, running a hand through his hair. "It's like… like everything is too perfect. Like this isn't real."

For a moment, CV was silent, her gaze piercing. Then, she reached out and took his hand, her touch gentle but firm. "Alex, you're overthinking. We're here, together. Isn't that all that matters?"

He looked into her eyes, searching for any hint of the woman he loved—the real CV. But all he saw was a reflection of his own doubts.

And then, it hit him. The test wasn't just about loyalty—it was about trust. Trusting in what he knew to be true, even when everything around him seemed to challenge that truth.

Taking a deep breath, Alex squeezed CV's hand and met her gaze with renewed determination. "No, this isn't real. This is a test—a test of my heart. And I know the truth. I love you, CV. And I would never doubt that."

For a moment, everything was still. The room, the shadows, even CV herself seemed to pause, as if the world was holding its breath.

And then, the illusion shattered.

The room dissolved around them, the darkness receding as the ethereal space of Stella's domain returned. Alex found himself standing once more before the Guardian, the Wish Crystal glowing softly in his hand.

Stella smiled, a hint of approval in her eyes. "You've passed the first test, Alex. The Will of a Husband is not just about loyalty, but about trusting in the truth of your heart, even when everything else seems to conspire against it."

Alex exhaled, relief washing over him. "That was… intense."

Stella nodded. "The tests will only grow more challenging from here. But remember, each one is designed to prepare you for the trials ahead. You will need to be strong, not just in body, but in spirit."

He nodded, understanding the gravity of what lay ahead. "I'm ready for whatever comes next."

Stella's smile widened, and she gestured toward a new path that had appeared behind her. "Then let us continue. The second test awaits."

With a final glance at the Wish Crystal, Alex steeled himself for the challenges ahead. He knew now that the road would be long and difficult, but with CV by his side—and the truth of his heart to guide him—he was ready to face whatever trials the future held.
