Chapter 135 - Chapter 135: Whispers of Betrayal

The morning dawned with a heavy fog, wrapping the ruined temple in a shroud of grey. The group moved with a sense of urgency, each member carrying the weight of their mission and the shadow of betrayal. Kalki, Rajan, Leela, Arjun, and Nisha gathered to review their strategy, their faces etched with determination and wariness.

"Let's head towards the old market district," Kalki suggested, his voice steady. "We need supplies, and it's a good place to gather information without drawing too much attention."

The group agreed and set off, blending into the bustling streets of Vimana. The market was a chaotic blend of colors and sounds, with vendors hawking their wares and customers haggling for the best prices. It was the perfect cover for their investigation.

Leela and Arjun moved through the crowd, listening for any whispers of their pursuers. Nisha stayed close to Kalki, her eyes scanning the throng for any sign of danger. Rajan took the lead, his sharp eyes missing nothing as they made their way through the market.

As they walked, a sudden commotion erupted near a stall selling exotic spices. A group of armed men pushed through the crowd, their faces hidden by scarves. Kalki's heart quickened; he recognized the emblem on their clothing—it was Kali's mark.

"Stay close," Kalki whispered to Nisha. "We need to avoid a confrontation if we can."

But it was too late. One of the men spotted them and shouted, drawing his weapon. The market descended into chaos as people screamed and ran for cover. Kalki and his companions drew their weapons, preparing for the inevitable clash.

The fight was brutal and swift. Kalki's sword clashed against the enemies' blades, his movements precise and lethal. Nisha fought with a ferocity that matched Kalki's, her eyes blazing with determination. Leela and Arjun defended themselves expertly, while Rajan took down two attackers with a single, powerful strike.

Amid the chaos, Kalki noticed one of the attackers retreating, a look of recognition flashing in his eyes. The man was about to disappear into the crowd when Kalki's voice rang out. "Stop!"

The man froze, then turned slowly. Kalki approached him, sword raised. "Who sent you?" he demanded.

The man laughed, a harsh, mocking sound. "You think you can stop Kali? You're a fool."

Kalki's grip tightened on his sword. "Answer me, or you'll regret it."

The man's eyes flickered with fear, but he remained defiant. "You're already too late. The traitor among you has ensured your downfall."

Before Kalki could react, the man drew a hidden dagger and lunged at him. Kalki dodged, his sword flashing as he struck the man down. The body fell to the ground, lifeless.

Kalki looked around at his companions, who were breathing heavily from the fight. "We need to leave. Now."

They made their way out of the market, avoiding the panicked crowd. Once they reached a quieter part of the city, they regrouped.

"We can't keep running like this," Rajan said, frustration evident in his voice. "We need a plan to root out the traitor."

Leela nodded. "Agreed. But we also need to find a way to turn this to our advantage. The more we learn about Kali's plans, the better prepared we'll be."

Arjun, who had been silent, spoke up. "There's an old contact of mine in the city. He might have information on the traitor. We should seek him out."

Kalki considered this. "Alright. Let's find this contact and see what he knows. But we need to be careful. Kali's men are everywhere, and we can't afford another ambush."

As they moved through the city, Kalki couldn't shake the feeling that they were being watched. Every shadow seemed to hide an enemy, every whisper a potential threat. The weight of leadership pressed heavily on him, but he knew he had to stay strong for his friends and for the mission.

They reached a narrow alleyway, where Arjun led them to a hidden door. He knocked in a specific pattern, and the door creaked open to reveal a small, dimly lit room. Inside was a man with a weathered face and sharp eyes.

"Arjun," the man said, his voice low. "It's been a long time."

"Too long, old friend," Arjun replied, clasping the man's hand. "We need your help. We're looking for a traitor in our ranks."

The man's eyes narrowed. "That's a dangerous game you're playing. But I might have some information. Come in, and we'll talk."
