I waited for a while before I spoke up. For heaven's sake, we are a society of intelligent people putting the hidden out in the public and forcing most public officials to do right by threatening to shame them globally with whatever we must have gathered about them.
We are not a terror organization, and at most, I had thought earlier that on realizing where the two agents were held, we would threaten to publicize that the military is holding two journalists just because of a few ill things written of them in the columns of an online post.
"Wait, you mean you are training people who would fight the military?" I asked.
"I want those boys out of there." Said Baba.
"They are core members of our society, and trust me, they might be exterminated if they don't…"
"We don't have to attack a military base." I snapped. "All we need is to get in there, grab some shots of what we see, and leak it to the public."
He paused for a while. Maybe he wasn't in his right senses when he was thinking of training boys to fight the military. He stood up and closed in on me.
"What are we, Sita?" he asked; his voice hoarse and bitter. "Spies, that's what we are. We threaten to assassinate the characters of public figures when they fail to come to terms with society, and when we need to defend ourselves, we do that without apology."
"You can't be serious." I retorted. "I understand we are spies, but now, the war is over, and we are praying to have a better state. Not to badge in and kill the military."
"The society chose you for this mission." He spoke into my face. "You were chosen because your legs are well already."
He slipped his hand in his pocket and fished a paper out of it. it was a red paper which signifies a call to service. I didn't take it from him, so, he tossed it at me.
"Those politicians, criminals, drug barons, and serial killers in government." He pointed towards the window. "They know we exist, but the thing is they don't know how to get to us. They tried that for years but failed multiple times, but now, with those men in their hands, they will first get to you, and maybe, your family will be the bait this time."
My family? No one would dare lay a finger on my family. I wasn't audible with that, but I will smite a thousand and ten thousand more if anyone lays a hand on my family.
"The secret military base was said to be a private military, under the management of the general you robbed of his phone, but it's being funded by Yapi." He slipped the phone in his pocket.
"Prepare for a mission, once we crack the location, we will tip you off, and I'll send my boys to you."
He tapped my shoulder and nodded on my behalf. "Good day, Agent 1515."
I watched him walk out from my room, just the same way he walked in at will whenever he visited my house.
Our society has long been a quiet society of columnists and gossips after we dropped our guns and hatchets. It had been fun all the while because I played an active role in cracking secrets and putting them out in public through society, but this time, I had to go pick my gun.
I ambled to the door and shut it once more, then, I made to my wardrobe. It was your regular wardrobe, but the worst you can think of would be that it functioned the same way your wardrobe does.
I moved closer to it and tapped a few times on a marked part of it, it was a censored part that works by rhythm. I did the tap and boom; a crackling sound came; a gentle crackling sound. The wardrobe was an entrance to a secret chamber, a different space in my house.
I walked into the chamber and the wardrobe closed itself.
The chamber was dusty, I'd not been in it for a long while. Gossip, on a normal, like the case of the minister of education who came to the restroom drunk with sperm on her lap, was simple. It was done without an act of violence, but this chamber was
a place of violence.
I took a few steps further and all the lights came on. There were a few computers here, and on the wall were my suits. Agent 1515 was my number, but I was nicknamed the black tigress.
"Long time no see, fellas," I said to the leather suits and the black gowns and masks, the tinted glasses, and the small weapons that were handier and more dangerous than the big Russian guns the army and the bad guys out there used for their business.
The walls reminded me of my active days, the days when I had to hit targets, beat guards, smash the heads of armed men, and soil my hands with the blood of the bad for the sake of the betterment of my country.
I walked over to the desk where my computers were and turned them on. They gave me the box to input my passwords, and I did it smoothly.
"I thought I would never have to use you anymore." I cried as the system loaded for a couple of seconds before logging me in.
"Agent 1515, black tigress report." I tapped in and connected with the round table society.
They were all seated, waiting for me to tear open the red paper and pledge to obey and serve. I fished it out, red and smooth. I tore it and held up the pieces.
"I'll serve as I've was appointed to do." I let the papers slip off my hand and fall to the ground.
"Commended." One of them said, and they went off. They didn't even have time to converse with me. I just had to go on and do what I had signed up for.
