Chapter 19 - Mom

"Oh, you had to go through all that and you didn't call me to tell me you were about to deal with such a case." She sounded like she was shunning me.

She is my mother, she doesn't see the big boy I am, the accomplished medical doctor. She only sees Alessandro Greco, her son, the one that I am when I don't have the doctor's jacket, that's what she sees.

"Don't worry," I uttered with a broad smile. "I'll call you during the next surgery and show you the videos."

She laughed on the phone and I laughed along. On a normal day, back in the US, we usually tease each other and laugh over them, because I became her doctor after being certified, so, we both know each other better than anyone else outside our circle.

"What about your friend, Dave, how is he?" she asked.

"Dave is busy cutting skulls and operating on brains," I replied. "Such a brilliant but tough line he fairs with."

"Is he there with you?" she asked.

"No," I said.

"Give the phone to him." She came stern.

"He is not here," I repeated.

"Where are you?" a sterner query.

"I'm at home, mom," I replied.

"Doing what?" she asked,

"Answering your call," I replied playfully.

She laughed a little longer, she kissed me from the phone. I kissed back by making the same sound she made.

We were quite far from each other, yet, we were doing our usual blow of kiss.

"Very good, remember to keep off from danger zones, and be fully careful with where you go and what you do." She said, her tone so low it sounded like whispers.

"I always have that in mind, Mom." I came as calm as she did.

"And the women, be careful, son." She went off.

I felt she had mistakenly clicked the red button, but after waiting for almost thirty minutes, she didn't call back, so I was thus sure she intentionally left the call.

I dropped the phone and relaxed my arms on the arms of the sofa. She just spoke of women, and she told me to be careful.

That's touching, but what if I call her and tell her that I wasn't careful last night?

I wiped my face with both palms. As much as I had my fears earlier for dealing with an untested lady last night, I still couldn't fight the fact that I would invite her over if there was a way to do that, but I had not been mindful enough to grab her phone when I could have done it last night.

"Sita," I muttered her name. it would forever be fresh in my mind because I had always known her as the stilettos patient, but she asked me to quit calling her stilettos patient.

My phone buzzed once more. It was Nancy this time. I have many things to tell her, so, I rose to my feet with the phone to have her begin her story at this very moment.

"Did you get what I asked David to pass to you?" she asked.

"Sure, I did, but you forgot to mention you told David that I came home looking fucked up," I spoke on the phone. "And he mocked me throughout."

Nancy laughed. "Sorry, I didn't say you came home looking fucked up."

"Okay, why did you call?" I asked her.

"Someone is looking for you." She announced. "A lady who claimed you once treated her…"

I went off. There was entirely nothing to hear from Nancy when I was sure it must be Sita who came by to see me.

Last night wasn't a waste, it wasn't just fun, it was love at first sight.

I scurried off from my apartment, got down with the lift, and made for the parking lot in haste. My fun buzzed in my pocket. I had cut the call before Nancy could finish because all I wanted was just to meet Sita again, but I took her call when I had turned on the car engine, to give myself no reason to make calls while driving.

"You hung up so fast, Alessandro." She gnashed. "You should have let me finish."

"Sorry, Nancy, but I have to come for her immediately," I replied.

"Sorry, she already left, and by the way, her name is Maria," Nancy announced.

"You don't mean it." I hollered. "How come she wanted to meet me?"

"She said she lost the prescription you made for her, so she needs a new one." She declared.

"What, and that's why you called me?" my eyes had gone wide.

"Sure, but do have a nice day, I will call you later." She went off.

"Damn".
