The battle commenced between the two armies, which both had billions of soldiers. The battle lines stretched across the beltway, with thousands of battles taking place on the asteroids independent from each other.
The most important of these battles was in the center, where the two Great Generals were engaged in a one on one dual. Unlike the other battles, this battlefield only had two men fighting, but even so the fighting was manifold more intense. Each Great General by themselves had the power to wipe out the other's army single-handedly. Therefore, the outcome of their dual would decide the battle.
However, this was a battle between two men of unimaginable power it would be impossible to get out of it unscathed for either side. Great General Clyne was also at a disadvantage of the size of their armies. He would have to win his battle before his army was overwhelmed by the enemies numbers.
Each time Clyne tried to get close enough to slash him with his sword Majole would use his ability, Movement Signs, to make him change direction. Eventually he made signs that made Clyne and his sword go in separate directions.
"Ha! Now that I've separated you from your famous Black Blade, you have no chance of winning!" Majole boasted.
"You shouldn't get too comfortable." Clyne retorted. He then rushed towards Majole again and threw a punch which was caught.
"Without your sword you're no threat, I don't even need to use my ability to stop your attacks now." Majole said as he held his fist.
"Yeah, and I'm glad you didn't." Clyne said with a smile as his sword rematerialized in his other hand. He then slashed Majole who was barely able to dodge in time but still received a large gash on his body. "This Black Blade is a part of my ability, I can recall it to my hand anytime I need it. You were too arrogant to ever see the need to research my ability, and that was your downfall. Now that you have been cut by my Black Blade our battle is over. You should know that much at least."
Great General Clyne's special ability, Black Blade, allowed him to materialize a sword that had the ability to continually multiply the cuts that his opponent's receive from his blade. For example, if he cut his opponent once it would eventually multiply into two cuts and then four and so on until his opponent died or he released the ability. Each time the cuts multiplied, they also deepened. Wounds made by his sword also couldn't be healed by conventional means.
"Eh, he's right. I made a mistake and left myself wide open. This is a bad cut too, it won't be long until the wounds eventually get to a point that's fatal. But there's more than two ways to cancel out his ability." Majole thought to himself. "This is now a contest of who will die first." He said as he prepared to make another attack.
"Isn't that always the case in battle?" Clyne said with a smirk. Though he was smiling Majole's ferocious counterattack was completely crushing Clyne. Such was the resolve of a man who was fighting with his life on the line.
As time went on, Majole's wounds continued to multiply. Eventually the cuts had multiplied to the point that there were sixteen massive cuts on his body, but still he continued to fight furiously.
Throughout the duration of their battle, Great General Majole had clearly been in control of the fight. The one slash that Clyne was able to sneak in was the only hit he managed to land the entire fight. It was clear that Great General Majole was actually far mightier than Great General Clyne. However, the one who was lying on the ground dead at the end of their battle was Majole. The single cut he landed had eventually developed to the point that had covered Majole in deep wounds and it was enough to eventually kill him.
"That was a lot harder than I thought I'd be. And I didn't think it'd be easy either." Great General Clyne said through labored breaths. He had taken quite the beating, he was covered in cuts and most of his bones were broken.
"Sir, congratulations on your victory. What are our next instructions?" A soldier asked.
"Send the men to the other battlefields, tell them to spread the word that Great General Majole has been slain. Most of the soldiers are going to just surrender as soon as they get that news. As far as this battle goes, it's essentially our victory already. Our only remaining issue, is the 100,000 elite soldiers that made up Majole's personal army. They're fiercely loyal to him, there's no way they would ever surrender or join us. We will have to take them out here." Clyne replied.
"Yes sir, just rest here. We'll handle the rest."
"No, we'll take heavy losses if we take them on head on. I'll fight them." Clyne declared.
Great General Clyne went on to lead his men against Majole's army. Even though he was seriously injured he still fought valiantly and cut down thousands of enemies. The result of the battle was a victory for the coalition forces, and they even increased their numbers after absorbing some of Majole's troops. However, the cost for this great victory was high. Great General Clyne had suffered significant injuries, he was unable to return to combat due to his injuries, and he would eventually die of his wounds.
With the Battle of the Beltway completed, the coalition forces made their way mostly unimpeded by any imperial resistance until they made their way to the Imperial capital, Lakashia. For the first time in centuries, the Imperial capital would be laid siege.
