Chapter 10 - Catching up with Mother

The doctor's clarification eased the panic in my heart. He also told us he had given her some sedatives to ease the pain and that it was okay to see her. Jerry thanked him and the doctor nodded and left.

Jerry and I entered my mother's room to check on her. She was sleeping peacefully. Looking at her peaceful expression, I thought, "This all happened because of that bastard. I will kill you, John Park, even if it's the last thing I do," clenching my fist in anger.

Feeling Jerry's gaze on my face, I turned to look at him and found him looking at me with an expression that seemed to say, "Are you okay?" I smiled a little and nodded, saying, "Don't worry, I'm fine."

Everything happened so fast that I forgot to ask the most important thing and asked, "How long has it been since the incident?" Jerry replied, "It's been six days." I nodded and started thinking.

My father, who I hadn't spent much time with in either life, had passed away. My mother was alive but had lost so much. The business was probably going to suffer due to this incident. And this bastard who caused all of this would likely use this chance to weaken my mother and strengthen his position in his company.

Thinking of him, I turned to Jerry and asked, "What were the results of the investigation of my father's death? Did they accuse him of anything?" His expression turned grave as he said, "A girl named Nasha took the blame for the murder of your father and an attempted murder of your mother, and John got away scot-free."

"This fucker!" I thought, clenching my teeth in anger. "Something like this is easy for him. He has both financial and individual strength backing his crimes," said Jerry, noticing my angry expression. "Now that I think about it, he was powerful enough to survive the explosion—" Remembering something, I turned to Jerry and asked, "Who rescued me and Mother? Was it you?"

Jerry slowly nodded. "Why didn't you rescue my father too?" I asked, frowning. He remained silent for a few seconds before responding, "Derek was already dead when I arrived. I checked his pulse the first thing and he was already gone."

I stared at him for a few seconds before turning my gaze towards my mother's sleeping figure. 'I will avenge you, Father, for both these lives, and I will protect Mother as long as I'm alive,' I swore in my heart.

Two days had passed since I woke up from the coma. My mother recovered a lot and she could now converse with us. We had a lot to catch up and we kept chatting. Noticing my mother who had slept while listening to me talking, a gentle smile appeared on my face.

Pulling her blanket up to cover her completely, I exited the room with silent steps. The hallway was silent and no one could be seen walking around it. Seeing this, I decided to take a walk around the park.

Kids could be seen playing with each other. A few couples were also spending time here in the park. The chirping sounds of birds made the scenery peaceful. As I enjoyed the peaceful feeling, I started thinking.

The first thing I needed to do to avenge my father and protect my mother was to get stronger, both financially and individually. Financial growth is not that hard since I already know what to do from my previous life. Moreover, since this world is a little late compared to my previous life, I can exploit the knowledge I have and increase my financial strength.

The problem was individual strength. Since I didn't have any clue, my path to individual strength will be an arduous one. My mana core rank was still F-rank, the lowest rank there is. An F-rank has only basic control of mana and they can only enhance their body up to 10%. The mana core rank ranges from F-Rank to SS-Rank with SS-Rank being the highest rank ever recorded in the history of this world. SS-Rank individuals are so rare that the human nation has only a couple of them.

The academy, although could give me a basic grasp of mana and the path to the top, was very slow and inefficient. Even in my previous life, the things that they taught at schools were mostly unusable in real life.

I have to find someone to guide me and give me advice on how to get stronger fast. And who was better to ask than Jerry, so I decided to call him. I inserted the numbers on the phone and pressed the dial button. After a couple of beeps, Jerry picked the call and said, "Ryan, how's your mother?"

"Hi Jerry, she's doing a lot better," I answered and he said, "Really! That's good to hear, and how are you?" he asked. I responded, "I'm good. Listen, can you find someone who can give me some advice on how to get stronger faster? I need a high-ranked individual."

"Yeah, sure! There are a few people that come to mind. What are you looking for specifically?" He asked. A smile crept upon my face as I replied, "I am looking for some adept in mana control, and has experience in real fights. His rank has to be C and preferably higher. Does anyone come to your mind?"

"Let me think," he said and we remained silent for a moment and he said, "Yeah, there's someone I know. He is B-Rank and he has a lot of experience. He was an adventurer and he lived most of his youth in the hunting for beasts. He's a little old and grumpy but he's a very good teacher."

"Perfect! So how do I meet him?" I asked. He contemplated for a few seconds before he said, "Well, you see, he's a little proud so we have to go to his house and ask." Surprised by his pride, I chuckled inwardly and said, "Okay, where's his house, and when are we going to meet him?"
