Chapter 1 - One more day

Marcus Winchester is a normal 18-year-old boy who lives on the continent of Earth. He has no big aspirations and works at a fast-food restaurant. His salary is minimal, and his lack of resources was the reason he broke up with his girlfriend, Betty. Overall, Marcus is not a young man who stands out.

One day, like any other, Marcus arrived home exhausted after working two shifts. He lives in a low-cost building in a run-down apartment, but it's all he can afford. His life is quite monotonous. In his building, there have always been stories of ghosts and supernatural things, but Marcus is a skeptical person; he doesn't believe in much because, according to him, if God were just, he wouldn't be going through all these hardships.

That night, arriving very late as usual, the suburbs where he lives resonated with screams at odd hours of the night. It wasn't a high-class neighborhood. However, that day felt strange, as if something was watching him. He thought it was just a vagabond and didn't care much, as he had always been athletic and had tried to get a scholarship to better his life, although without success so far.

Entering the lobby of his building, he saw a vagabond at the entrance muttering, "Evil is lurking, it's very, very close." Marcus, knowing the vagabond was probably on some substance, didn't pay him any mind. He began climbing the stairs, as the elevator had broken down long ago and was never repaired.

As he climbed, he noticed everything was quieter than usual, and a strange sweet yet rusty smell filled the air. He thought maybe someone had been stabbed and left bleeding out, something not too uncommon in his neighborhood. However, what really unsettled him was the strange feeling of being watched. He quickened his pace to get to his miserable apartment as soon as possible.

Hurrying through the dark hallways, he felt something approaching. Nervously, he tried to open the door quickly. Glancing at the end of the hallway, he saw a shadow moving toward him. With the dim lighting, he couldn't make it out clearly. The entity approached quickly, and Marcus, struggling to open the door, thought, "I should have changed that doorknob."

Suddenly, the shadow leaped on him with immense force, knocking him to the ground. Marcus, with his arm, held the attacker by the neck. In the moonlight and the faint hallway illumination, he saw the attacker had its mouth open, growling, with long, sharp fangs. He had never seen anything like it except in movies. He couldn't believe what he was seeing; he thought he had been knocked out and was hallucinating. But as he felt the attacker's strength, he realized he wasn't dreaming: it was a vampire.

Struggling with the vampire and fighting for his life, Marcus noticed it was dripping blood. Amidst the monster's growls and his adrenaline, he heard footsteps in the hallway. Desperate, he screamed for help. Though Marcus was athletic and cold-minded, the vampire's strength overpowered him. As the monster's fangs neared his neck, he thought that if God existed, He wouldn't allow this.

Suddenly, a blade swiftly passed and cut the vampire, causing its head to roll on the floor. In front of Marcus stood a person dressed in a leather jacket, wielding a knife. With the little strength he had left, Marcus pushed the vampire's mutilated body off and wiped the blood from his face. He heard the newcomer say, Don't swallow a single drop of that monster's blood, or I'll decapitate you right now.
