There was a faint shrill in the air, as time passes it gets louder and closer then BOOM!! The explosion rocks the ground sending clumps of dirt, mud, and water in the air to rain on me and my fellow soldiers.
"Another day in paradise." I grouse to myself. An arm wraps around my neck as my friend Tristen exclaims "Oh come on man, don't be such a sourpuss!"
Two seconds later we hear the rapid fire of machine guns and hunker down in the trech while some poor kid got his head blown up like a watermelon.
"Riiiight not being a sourpuss in the middle of a war, great idea." As Tristen tried to speak a commissar went up the line shouting "FIX BAYONETS MEN! BE READY FOR BLOOD AND GLORY FOR OUR HOMELAND!"
"Blood yes, glory not so much."
Tristen laughs at my comment while doing what the commissar said.
"Well at least this is close to over, we're what 60 miles out from their capital?"
"100." He shrugs "Eh, to-mate-o, to-mot-o man."
The whistle interrupted what I was going to say and then it was a blur of brown, gray, and red as I made it to the enemy trench. The next few minutes was just shoot, stab, and beating people up with whatever I had on hand.
The fighting is over, the fog of red that I saw fades and I see a man with his torso squished with a small boulder. 'How the hell did I find that, let alone lift that thing?' I lean against the wall of the trech BAM! I felt something tear through my chest then felt no more.
