Chapter 21 - The Start of College

Oliver stood in front of his dorm room's door. His entire body was drenched in sweat, and he couldn't stop himself from gasping for any air he could get. His legs ached, and his vision even felt narrower than usual. As he stood there, Eman snuck up behind him.

"Heyo! Did you just run a marathon or something, dude?"

"N-no. Maybe. I-I don't know."

"Huh? That makes no sense, man."

"S-she made me keep running." Oliver was barely able to let out in between his gasps of air. Eman gave him a strange look only for his body to suddenly shiver. His neck slowly creaked backward when he noticed the devil that spoke with her honey-like voice.

"Oh? What are you doing here? O.L.I.V.E.R."

"Fuck." Oliver cursed as her glare seemed to overshadow even the sun. Her glare chilled his body to its core, not giving him even a second to think. Oliver's enhanced body experienced dread once again, and he had left the area before he even noticed.

Eman looked at Samantha, although he quickly looked away when her frenzied eyes stared back.

"Cough! Y-you know I h-have this one thing. Y-you know that one thing. So bye!"

Samantha just stared at Eman as he started to run away from her similar to a maggot. She let out a sigh and felt slightly guilty, only towards Eman of course, as she was still caught up with her meeting.

Half a day earlier, Samantha had arrived at a simple hut that stood amid towering buildings. Yet, strangely, the students seemed to not even notice its strange appearance or even its appearance at all. Even their bodies seemed to not recognize the building in front of them, causing them to walk straight into its shabby wooden walls, or how it should've been. Instead, they would phase through the walls and everything in between, wholly unaware and ignorant. Samantha walked through the shabby wooden doors and appeared inside a small dim room where other instructors stood. Now, many might ask why instructors at the most prestigious college in the world were gathering at such a shabby and mysterious location. Samantha subtly glanced at the reason, the headmaster.

The headmaster was somebody no one in this room understood or even knew anything about. Their entire figure had been blurry every time they've met or changed with each interaction; their voice changed with their appearance, however, their eccentric personality seemed to be the only constant thing about them.

"Now~~~ that everyone is here~~~! Let us begin!! Thissss meeting is mainly about the new students!"

"Tch!" Samantha couldn't control herself as she thought about that damn maggot from before, bringing the entire room's attention onto her.

"Sammy?"

Samantha stared at the woman in front of her, light green hair and sky-blue eyes. Delicate facial features and an ample body.

"I'm sure I've told you to stop calling me that, headmaster."

"Hehe, but it sounds so much cuter than Scarlet Devil."

"St—"

"Aww, y-you don't like it?" The headmaster's eyes seemed to get watery as she looked at Samantha. While Samantha knew this happened every time and every time the headmaster would use some ploy, she still couldn't bring herself to watch her cry, a weird aspect for the Scarlet Devil.

"W-whatever…"

"Yay!! Hehe~" The headmaster's face changed just as fast, and they ran to Scarlet and leaped into her arms, or at least tried to. Instead, Samantha sidestepped them, and they face-planted onto the wooden floors, earning them a large thud and a busted lip.

"Tehee~ soooo, why did you click your tongue at me earlier, Sammy?"

"Sorry, just thought of this one student I met yesterday and on my way here."

"Hehe, Oliver right? Hehe, he's a fun one alright."

"Huh?"

The headmaster's eyes flashed with a rare glint of pure interest and anticipation.

"I won't say much, just that, his presence makes everything just so much more interesting."

The rest of the meeting was dull, with nothing else noteworthy happening.

Oliver found himself back at his dorm hall a few hours after his small meeting with Samantha. However, this time he didn't waste any time and ran into his room, ignoring everything else.

"Huff! Huff! I-I'm finally free. Thank. Huff! God."

Oliver quickly took a quick glance around his room for safe measure, only letting down his guard when he noticed no one. Oliver's room was quite small, with a single medium-sized room that had a desk, a bed lofting over the desk, and a small couch with a TV on the wall. The room came with a small refrigerator and cupboard, along with a small bathroom.

Oliver exhaustedly sat on the couch and looked over towards his phone. At the moment, students from all backgrounds were starting to gather at the school, as before, only those of the supernatural nature had been situated. Moreover, with the addition of more students, classes started to become more specialized, and the students were given their choice of courses.

At the moment, Oliver was enrolled in a Bachelor of Science degree in Forensic Science. Thus, he was taking Biology 181, Chemistry 113, Mat210: Brief Calculus, and First-Year Composition. Moreover, he also had classes for the supernatural side of things with Close Combat 210, Magical Theory 101, and Supernatural 101.

Oliver sighed and could feel his free time slipping out of his hands. He sighed and moved towards his desk, where he started to write down his entire schedule, from the classes, their locations, and times.

"Biology 181-Verdant Hall 201-Tuesdays & Thursdays at 10:30 am to 11:45 am.

Chemistry 113- Keriopo Library LL07- Monday & Wednesday at 11:00 am to 12:15 pm.

Mat210: Brief Calculus- King's Library 130- Tuesdays & Thursdays at 1:00 pm to 2:15 pm.

First-Year Composition- Weaver's Hall 09- Monday & Wednesday at 1:00 pm to 2:15 pm.

Close Combat 210- Cloud Peak Summit- Monday & Wednesday & Friday at 3:00 to 5:00 pm.

Magical Theory 101- Weaver's Hall 1031 Friday at 11:30 am to 12:45 pm. Supernatural 101:

Kings Library LL18-Thursday 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm."

Oliver easily noticed the large number of classes that would each need multiple grueling hours outside of classes. He let out a small sigh and remarked in his mind,

"At least things can't get any worse."

Oliver knew his first class would be starting soon. Chemistry 113 was something he was slightly looking forward to.

A/N

Hey everyone who might be enjoying this novel or used to enjoy it before the updates suddenly vanished. While it may not mean much, I just wanted to apologize for the lack of updates recently as I have been way too busy.

While I do enjoy writing quite a lot and I'm determined to finish this novel even if it kills me, I can also recognize that this is a hobby. I'm making no money from this novel, nor do I intend to. As such, whenever the choice between my personal life or this comes up, I'm sorry; however, I plan to prioritize myself. With college starting up recently for me and the shitload of assignments that need to be done every week, I might not have enough time to upload multiple times a week; however, I do plan on trying to keep up a pace of two or three chapters every week, but I can promise you that unless something serious happens, I plan to upload at least once every week.

Moreover, the portrayal of college through this story is slightly through my own experience of it so far. As such, if you notice anything out of place or needs work, please let me know, or if you wish to share your own experiences that might help develop the story, that would also be appreciated.

Thank you for reading my small rant, and I hope you enjoy the chapters to come.
