The ride through the cool, dark evening was silent and awkward, which was normal considering what they had done earlier.
Benjamin's face was a mask of calmness, his eyes fixed on the road ahead, while Tommy's gaze was downward, his eyes fixed on the medium-sized polythene bag on his lap.
His brow was furrowed, and his lips were pursed, betraying his inner turmoil. The feeling of not wanting to broach a subject or say anything at all was mutual.
When they arrived at Tommy's dilapidated apartment, Benjamin said, "Buzz off," his voice low and even, without glancing over at Tommy beside him.
Tommy quickly obeyed, his movements stiff and hesitant, bowing his head before hurrying towards the building. As he walked, his eyes remained downcast, his shoulders slumped.
Benjamin, eager to escape the uncomfortable place, adjusted his rearview mirror.
