Twyla felt her fear upgrade to terror at those words. She had no weapons. She had no idea how to fight a human, let alone a magical creature. She had no idea if this was a magical creature. Maybe she should run.
Yip. That seemed right.
Twyla took off sprinting. Laughter followed her through the trees.
"Oh, I do love a chase," the silken voice whispered in her ear. Twyla screamed and whirled around. Her ankle twisted and she ended up on the floor. She braced herself. But there was no one there.
Twyla had no idea what was going on and she hated it. Tears fell down her cheeks but this time it was pure dread.
"Ooh. No. I've made the human cry," the voice taunted. "Pathetic."
Twyla got up off the floor and back up to a tree. That way she would be able to see which way the threat was coming.
"Feeling smart?"
Twyla heard the whisper close to her but refused to move this time.
