followed Reed down the hallways of the Baxter Building, his mind racing.
He had come here expecting resistance, but this? This was worse.
Reed wasn't some paranoid fool throwing around baseless accusations—he was smart. He needed evidence to doubt someone.
And now… Aiden was about to see exactly what had made him doubt his father.
They entered a dimly lit room filled with monitors, casting an eerie glow over Reed's face as he turned to one of the largest screens.
"This," Reed said, "is why I doubted your father."
With a tap on the keyboard, the footage played.
A grainy security video appeared. The timestamp in the corner indicated it was from the night Sue disappeared.
Aiden's breath hitched.
It was his dad.
Jason Blake stepped out of the elevator, dressed in his SHIELD uniform. His expression was unreadable—calm, professional, but something about the way he moved seemed… tense.
Then, another video.
This one showed Jason and Sue in a hallway.
They were arguing.
Sue's arms were crossed, her stance defensive. Jason looked firm, trying to explain something—but there was no audio.
Then came the final piece.
Reed's fingers hovered over the keyboard as he turned back to Aiden.
"Sue, like the rest of us, has a tracker," Reed explained. "A highly advanced one—only we can disable it. Or…"
He hit a key.
A system log appeared, showing an abrupt cutoff of Sue's tracker signal.
"…or your father," Reed finished, his voice serious.
Aiden narrowed his eyes.
"The tracker stopped activating the moment Sue and Jason left the building," Reed continued. "We don't know why, but… we haven't been able to find her since."
Aiden clenched his fists.
Reed let out a heavy sigh. "Jason was the most trustworthy person we knew. But this evidence…"
He shook his head.
"We have no other leads."
Aiden stared at the frozen image of his father on the screen, the weight of Reed's words settling in.
Jason Blake. The man he had always looked up to. The man who had taught him right from wrong.
Could he really be behind this?
No. That didn't make any sense.
His thoughts were interrupted as he turned to Reed with a sharp gaze.
"If my dad is responsible, then why did the SHIELD agent I fought mention Doom being involved?"
Reed exhaled slowly.
"I was getting to that."
He tapped a few keys, switching the video feed. The screen flickered, revealing a new recording.
The image sent a chill through the room.
Doctor Doom.
Standing tall, his steel mask reflecting the dim light, his green cloak draped over his shoulders.
Then, he spoke.
"I have kept Susan Storm alive."
His voice was cold, confident, laced with arrogance.
"But if you wish to see her again, you will comply with my demands."
Aiden narrowed his eyes as Doom continued.
"In exactly one week, you will come to the location I specify. You will come alone. No weapons. No outside interference. You will restrain your powers."
There was a slight pause. Then, Doom tilted his head.
"Only then will you see her."
The video began to distort, but before it ended, Doom added one last thing:
"If you take too long… I cannot guarantee I will be able to control myself."
Then, the screen went black.
Silence.
Aiden's jaw tightened.
"Bastard," he muttered.
Peter, who had been uncharacteristically quiet, clenched his fists. "That's gotta be a bluff. He's just trying to mess with you."
Reed, however, didn't seem convinced.
Aiden turned to him. "How long has it been since you got this?"
Reed sighed, rubbing his temples. "Tomorrow is the deadline."
Aiden frowned.
"That's why you were so desperate," he realized. "That's why you let SHIELD interrogate you—because you were running out of time."
Reed nodded grimly.
Aiden exhaled, running a hand through his hair. "Alright. I'll help you."
Reed blinked. "You will?"
Aiden folded his arms. "Doom is my only lead to finding my dad. So yeah, I'm coming with you."
Reed hesitated. "Aiden, I don't want to risk Sue's safety by bringing you along. This isn't some small-time villain we're dealing with. It's Doom."
Aiden just smirked.
Then, before Reed could react, Aiden sank into the ground—merging seamlessly into Reed's own shadow.
Reed stiffened.
Aiden's voice slithered through the dim room, his tone amused yet unwavering.
"As long as I'm in this form, no one—not even Doom—will be able to detect me."
Reed's fingers twitched, his mind already racing through possibilities. Aiden was confident—too confident. But could he really remain unseen, even from someone as brilliant as Victor Von Doom?
Aiden's form re-emerged behind Reed, his crimson dragon-slit eyes gleaming with mischief.
"You should take me with you," he murmured. "If Doom really did kidnap Sue, then he's expecting you to follow his orders exactly."
Reed's brow furrowed.
Aiden crossed his arms. "You follow the rules. I don't. That's why you need me there."
Reed remained silent, analyzing every word.
Doom was a strategist, a manipulator. The fact that he'd gone through the effort of making demands instead of outright killing Sue meant he wanted something. If Reed played into his hands too easily, it could all be over before they even had a chance to fight back.
Aiden grinned, sensing Reed's hesitation. "I promise I won't screw this up."
Before Reed could respond, Peter—who had been painfully left out of the conversation—raised a hand.
"Uh, hello? What about me? I came here to help too, remember?"
Aiden turned to him with a smirk. "Yeah, I got a job for you."
Peter perked up slightly.
"You're not coming to the meet-up."
Peter's excitement immediately died. "Wait—what?"
Aiden clapped a hand on his shoulder. "We need you in reserve. When things go south—and trust me, they will—you swoop in. Your job is support."
Peter blinked. "Wait, I'm backup?"
Aiden smirked. "You're the contingency plan."
Peter groaned. "Great. I love being the contingency plan."
Reed, who had been listening carefully, finally exhaled.
"This is risky," he admitted. "Doom is strong and smart—he'll anticipate something like this."
Aiden merely grinned.
"Good," he said. "I love a challenge."
Reed sighed, rubbing his temples. "Fine. We go with your plan. But if anything happens to Sue—"
Aiden waved a hand. "Relax, stretchy, I got this."
Peter muttered, "I don't think I like that nickname…"
Reed ignored them, his mind already focused on the coming confrontation.
Tomorrow, they were walking straight into Doom's domain.
