Aiden remained in Reed's shadow as they approached their destination. He could feel the tension radiating off the Fantastic Four, each of them lost in their own thoughts. Even Johnny, who was usually brash and full of fire—both literally and figuratively—was silent.
They were walking into Doom's territory, following his rules. And that didn't sit well with any of them.
"Alright," Johnny finally muttered. "I gotta ask. What's the plan if this turns out to be a trap?"
"It is a trap," Ben grumbled. "That ain't even a question."
Reed sighed, adjusting his gloves as they walked through the dense forest that Doom had specified for the meeting. "We're following his conditions so that we can see what he wants. The moment we deviate, we risk Sue's life."
Johnny clenched his fists, a faint flicker of flame igniting at his fingertips. "That bastard kidnapped my sister. I don't care what he wants—I'm gonna fry him the second I see him."
Aiden's voice, barely a whisper, came from Reed's shadow.
"Not yet."
Johnny tensed but didn't respond.
Ben crossed his arms. "And what about Stretch over here? Doom's got some kinda personal vendetta against him, that's obvious. What if this is all about humiliating ya?"
Reed didn't reply immediately. He knew exactly what Doom wanted—it had been clear since the moment he saw the video.
As they entered the clearing, a large, reinforced elevator stood before them, hidden within the trees. The doors slid open automatically, an eerie invitation into the depths below. Without a word, they stepped inside.
The ride down was silent, the hum of the machinery the only sound.
Then, a screen flickered to life.
Victor Von Doom's masked face appeared, his green cloak draped regally over his shoulders as he sat upon an iron throne.
"Richards," Doom's voice echoed through the chamber, calm and calculated. "You are more predictable than I had hoped. But, nonetheless, I knew you would come."
Reed's jaw tightened. "Where is she?"
Doom chuckled. "Ah, yes. The ever-determined, ever-righteous Reed Richards. So eager. So desperate."
The screen shifted, revealing a dimly lit room.
Sue Storm was tied to a chair, her body barely covered in the remnants of her torn clothing. Metal cuffs bound her wrists and ankles, glowing with an eerie energy—likely nullifying her powers. Her breathing was ragged, but her eyes burned with defiance.
Doom's voice dripped with amusement.
"She is alive, for now."
Johnny took a step forward, flames igniting around his body. "YOU—"
"Control yourself, Johnny," Reed snapped, though his voice was tight with barely restrained rage.
Doom laughed. "Yes, control yourself, boy. Unless you'd rather I... break her spirit before your very eyes."
Sue's eyes widened, and she struggled against her bindings. "Don't listen to him! Reed—"
The screen cut out.
Doom leaned forward on his throne, his metallic fingers steepled together. "Now, Richards. My demand is simple."
Reed's hands curled into fists. "What do you want?"
Doom's eyes gleamed beneath his mask.
"I want your mind, Richards."
Silence.
Reed narrowed his eyes. "Explain."
Doom smirked. "You have built things that even I, Doom, have struggled to recreate. Your knowledge of science, of the multiverse, of the very fabric of reality—it is the only thing standing in my way. And so, you will surrender yourself to me. You will work under my rule, creating my vision of a perfect world."
He gestured towards the darkened screen where Sue had been.
"If you refuse... well, I have been without a queen for quite some time."
Johnny exploded.
Flames burst from his body, the entire chamber illuminated by his sheer fury. "I'M GONNA KILL YOU, YOU SON OF A—"
Ben grabbed him by the shoulder, forcing him back. "Not yet, kid."
Reed took a breath, steadying himself. Doom wanted him to lose control.
"Doom," he said carefully. "If you're so confident in your superiority, why resort to this?"
Doom chuckled. "Because unlike you, I do not let morality hinder my success."
The elevator doors slid open.
Armed guards in high-tech armor stood waiting, their rifles trained on the Fantastic Four.
"Enter," Doom ordered, rising from his throne. "Let us speak face to face."
Reed hesitated, then stepped forward. Johnny and Ben followed, their bodies tense with anger.
Aiden, still hidden in Reed's shadow, smirked.
Finally.
.....
Doom's throne loomed over them, its metallic sheen reflecting the dim light of the underground chamber. The Fantastic Four stood before him, their bodies tense, every instinct warning them that this was more than just a negotiation.
Yet, they listened. Because that's what Doom wanted.
The air was thick with tension, and Aiden remained perfectly still in Reed's shadow, his breathing controlled, his presence undetectable. His sharp eyes focused on Doom's every movement, waiting, analyzing.
Doom spread his arms wide. "For too long, I have dreamt of a world free of chaos. A world where war, famine, and destruction are nothing but distant memories. A world united under a single, unshakable force." His fingers clenched into a fist. "But of course, such a world requires sacrifice."
His eyes glowed beneath the mask, filled with a fervent determination.
"And what do the so-called heroes of this world do? They hesitate. They debate. They mourn for the fallen when they could have prevented their deaths. You claim to fight for justice, yet you lack the will to do what must be done."
His voice echoed throughout the chamber, carrying the weight of his conviction.
"I will not stand idle. I will be the one to forge the future."
He leaned forward, his voice lowering, turning almost... eager.
"The world is too small for my ambitions, Richards. I have spent years mastering both science and magic, pushing the boundaries of what is possible. But this world alone is not enough."
Aiden, hidden in the shadows, narrowed his eyes.
So he's not yet a master of both. That means he's still learning...
Doom's hand swept across the room as if gesturing to something unseen.
"There exist other worlds, other universes—each filled with knowledge, with power beyond anything this reality can comprehend. If I am to become the supreme ruler this world needs, I must evolve. I must expand beyond the limits of this universe."
Reed's jaw clenched. "And you think I'm just going to help you?"
Doom chuckled darkly. "You don't have a choice. You will build it for me, Richards. A gateway to the multiverse. A bridge between realities."
Johnny's fists ignited, barely restraining his anger. "And if he refuses?"
Doom's masked face tilted ever so slightly. "Then I keep Susan."
The flames on Johnny's hands flared violently, but Ben put a firm hand on his shoulder, grounding him.
Reed took a step forward. "Then let's make a deal. You want me, fine. But you let Sue go in exchange."
Doom threw his head back and laughed. A cruel, mocking sound that echoed in the vast chamber.
"Oh, Richards. You never learn." He spread his arms. "Why settle for just you, when I can have you all?"
Reed's eyes remained steady, his mind already calculating. Doom was overconfident. That was his mistake.
Without hesitation, he gave the agreed-upon signal.
A single question.
"What happened to Jason Blake?"
Aiden tensed in the shadows.
Doom's laughter returned, cruel and amused. "Ah, so that's what this is about." He leaned back in his throne. "Your fool of a SHIELD agent? I haven't the slightest idea. Dead, most likely."
Reed's face remained impassive. "Explain."
Doom smirked. "Ah, you do love your explanations, don't you, Richards?" He crossed one leg over the other. "Your beloved Susan made a rather reckless decision, as usual. She came to me... alone."
Johnny's eyes widened. "That's a lie."
Doom's gaze snapped to him. "Oh? Then why was she here? Why would she seek me out?"
Reed's fingers curled slightly. "Why?"
Doom leaned forward, reveling in their reactions. "Because, despite everything, she still believed in me." His voice dripped with mockery. "She thought I could be redeemed, that I could be fixed, that I could become a righteous man." He exhaled through his mask. "And what did she receive for her faith?"
A cruel smile formed beneath the metal.
"Chains."
Johnny's body burst into flames. "I'll kill you!"
Doom merely chuckled. "There it is. That heroic rage. You're all so predictable."
Reed's mind worked rapidly. 'That's why Sue and Jason were arguing. It wasn't Jason being accused. He was trying to stop her. He knew'.
He looked Doom in the eye. "You keep mentioning Jason. So tell me, Doom—what really happened to him?"
Doom waved a hand lazily. "The agent? Ah, he was a nuisance. He tried so desperately to interfere, but I put him down easily enough." He raised a finger, and sparks of electricity flickered around it. "A simple shock should have killed him."
Reed's breath hitched. "But it didn't."
Doom scoffed. "He ran, like the coward he was. Into the jungle. But by now? He's dead."
A silence fell over the room.
Then—
The shadows moved.
