Chapter 20 - A fight for truth exposes a web of lies.

Ava's hand tightened around the envelope she held. It contained the evidence they needed to bring Henry down. Every step they took brought them closer to the heart of the estate, where Henry awaited, unsuspecting of the storm that was about to hit him.

The grand front doors loomed ahead, and without hesitation, Liam pushed them open. The heavy creak echoed through the silent night, announcing their arrival. Inside, the air was thick with tension.

Henry stood at the far end of the room, his back to them, gazing out of the window. The moment he heard them, he turned, a smirk playing on his lips. "Well, well, if it isn't the dynamic duo," he drawled, his voice dripping with sarcasm.

Ava stepped forward, her eyes burning with determination. "It's over, Henry. We have everything we need to expose you."

Henry's smirk faltered for a fraction of a second before he regained his composure. "Is that so?" He glanced at the envelope in Ava's hand, feigning disinterest. "And what exactly do you think you have?"

Liam pulled out his phone, ready to record the confrontation. "Confessions, documents, everything. You can't talk your way out of this."

For a moment, Henry's eyes flickered with fear, but he quickly masked it with anger. "You think you can just waltz in here and threaten me?" He took a step closer, his face contorted with rage. "I built this empire. No one can tear it down."

Ava met his gaze without flinching. "You built it on lies and corruption. The truth always comes out, Henry."

Henry lunged forward, trying to snatch the envelope from Ava's grasp. She dodged him, but he was relentless. Liam moved to intervene, grabbing Henry's arm and pulling him back.

"Enough!" Liam's voice was steady, but his grip was firm. "This ends now."

Henry wrenched free, breathing heavily. "You have no idea what you're getting into. This is bigger than you, bigger than any of us."

Ava's eyes narrowed. "What do you mean?"

Henry's laughter was hollow, almost manic. "You really think I'm the only one involved? There are others—powerful people who won't let this go easily."

The weight of his words hung in the air, a chilling reminder of the darkness that lurked beneath the surface. Ava exchanged a worried look with Liam, but her resolve didn't waver. "We'll deal with them when the time comes. Right now, we're dealing with you."

Henry's expression turned desperate. "You don't understand. They'll come after you, your families. This isn't just a game."

Liam stepped forward, his voice cold. "We're not afraid of you or anyone else. Your time is up."

As if on cue, the distant sound of sirens pierced the night. Henry's face paled, realizing that his options were dwindling. He made one last desperate attempt, lunging at Ava again. This time, she was ready. She sidestepped him, and he stumbled, falling to the ground.

The door burst open, and uniformed officers swarmed into the room, their weapons drawn. "Henry Wallace, you're under arrest," one of them announced, his voice authoritative.

Henry's shoulders slumped in defeat. "You can't do this," he muttered as they cuffed him. "You have no idea what you've started."

Ava watched as they led him away, her heart pounding in her chest. She felt a mix of relief and apprehension. The battle was won, but the war was far from over. She turned to Liam, who was already sending the evidence to the authorities. "It's done," he said, his voice soft but firm.

Ava nodded, but before she could respond, a shadow moved at the edge of her vision. She spun around, her senses on high alert. From the darkness, a figure emerged—a tall, imposing man with a cold, calculating gaze.

"Well, well," the man said, his voice smooth and menacing. "I must say, you've done quite the job tonight."

Liam stepped protectively in front of Ava. "Who are you?"

The man's smile was chilling. "Let's just say I'm someone very interested in keeping certain secrets buried. And you've just made things very complicated."

Ava's blood ran cold. She had expected resistance, but this man exuded a different kind of danger. "We're not afraid of you," she said, her voice trembling slightly but resolute.

The man chuckled softly. "You should be." He took a step closer, and the air seemed to grow colder. "This is far from over, Ms. Sullivan. Far from over."

With that, he turned and disappeared into the shadows, leaving Ava and Liam standing in stunned silence. The sirens outside grew louder, but the threat now felt much closer. They had exposed Henry, but in doing so, they had uncovered a deeper, more insidious conspiracy.

Ava looked at Liam, her eyes filled with a mixture of fear and determination. "We have to find out who he is. We have to stop them."

Liam nodded, his jaw set. "We'll do whatever it takes."
