Chapter 17 - First Day Of The Siege

As soon as they arrived, they began the siege, as if they were unsewing a huge green carpet, which turned red as they approached the walls of Gastros.

Meanwhile, Mickey II took advantage of the opportunity to annex the small factions under the pretext of joining forces to defend the city. After four hours had passed and all the insignificant factions were annexed, only his father's Ratman Horde, the Patriotic Guard of Kidonia (of which he was a part), and the De Gastros Prefecture remained, thus forming an unlikely triumvirate that temporarily united to avoid being drowned by the visibly infinite sea of goblins.

The air had a sweet smell reminiscent of cotton candy with touches of iron, thanks to the absurd amount of blood from enemies and allies, and the smell of childish sweets that the runic gunpowder had.

The meat grinder didn't stop; eight hours of intense fighting had already passed, with guts, brains, and feces everywhere.

The horde continued advancing as if they did not fear death, using the bodies of their mortally wounded comrades as ladders and shields. They shouted words from their primitive language, which made their eyes redden and their veins bulge from their bodies as their muscles swelled, doubling in size. "At' accat!"

As they advanced in a frenzy shouting this word, at the end of their ranks, wizards beat large drums made from human skin, sending the goblins into this infinite battle trance.

What the humans and their comrades did not know was that the goblins spoke and repeated a word of power from the ancient language of fire dragons. When a dragon used it, its power increased tenfold; when another race used it without the necessary qualifications, its power would double but its life would vanish along with it, exchanging temporary power for lifespan.

Estimates on the human side were 5,000 casualties, with troops from all factions disappearing quickly due to unpreparedness and low morale.

The exception was Kiros's troops, who, being well-trained and having veterans in their ranks, were fighting with enviable coordination amid the pressure of javelins and rocks flying in their direction.

At times, the goblins managed to step over the wall, only to be expelled by the reserve forces stationed by Wolferos for these types of situations.

After eighteen straight hours of siege and with bodies scattered across the entire length of the wall, a trumpet sounded, causing the goblins to retreat even faster than they had attacked, surprising the exhausted defenders who gave a shout of victory with their remaining strength. "Victory!! Gastros lives!!"
