Chapter 19 - The Reaction Of Humans

The next day, the siege resumes with full force, with the goblins attacking with renewed vigor. Meanwhile, in one of the ten giant nations, known as the Spartan Military Kingdom, in the council room, Menelaus Cornelius IV, king of Sparta, silently listens to his advisors discussing the future of the kingdom and whether or not to send troops to eliminate the horde of more than 15 million goblins plaguing the entire eastern territory of humanity.

"Don't forget that I am the king, and although sometimes you are useful, now you are not. So shut up!" said Menelaus, already out of patience with so much pointless discussion.

"But sir, if we intervene, we will spend resources that could be directed to the poor of our kingdom!" said a left-wing advisor.

"We need to intervene, you animal! This is not about us, it's about humanity!" said a right-wing advisor, nearly jumping at the throat of his political rival.

"Calm down, everyone! I've made my decision! One million runic peltasts will be sent. Select from the free men who want to become citizens of our kingdom and send along 100,000 runic hoplites, preferably citizens between 25 and 35 years old."

"But sir, we are close to the harvest, this will be detrimental to our economy!" said the Minister of Economy, who until now had avoided speaking.

"Our population exceeds 6 billion, less than a million men will make no difference. Not to mention we have women and prisoners of war to put to work. I know you were eyeing the funds being allocated to the military, forget it, and prepare the emergency mobilization. I give one week for these troops to be on the front lines, or someone's head will roll," said the king, visibly exhausted with the selfish attitude of his advisors and ministers.

While one of the giant nations had this discussion, the others also held their meetings and prepared various levels of reinforcements to assist the micro-republics, which were falling apart in just a few days of combat, except for Kidonia. Thanks to heroic acts in several battles, the people had acquired a spirit of resistance, bringing headaches to the chess players behind this sea of death.
