Emily had a dream where she returned to her own village. In the dream, after finishing her farm work, Mrs. Bauer would stand outside the barn with a plate of snacks, kindly waving to Emily and saying, "Come on, Emily, I made your favorite lemon pie."
As Emily laid down her farm implements and started toward Mrs. Bauer, her figure faded into obscurity as she ran, and eventually, the dream died away. But the scent of lemon pie lingered in the air.
"Oh, Mrs. Bauer," Emily said, half-asleep, "I miss your lemon pie so much."
"Emily, wake up," Klaus's voice rang in her ears. "Look what this is."
Emily opened her eyes in a daze and saw Klaus holding a round silver dish in his hand. She sniffed greedily at the smell of lemon mixed with butter.
"Is this a lemon pie?" Emily immediately sat up, staring at the plate in Klaus's hand. "Oh, it's lemon pie."
"Is this for me?" Emily could hardly believe it.
