Chapter 1 - Prologue

Today is just another day. I go to the hang-out spot, come back home, and do stuff. I better get ready for the hang-out then. I Grabbed my hoodie from my closet and got changed. I rushed downstairs to make myself some toast.

"Hey Harper, when are you coming home today?" My father asked.

"I will come home around 5 pm," I responded "Do you want some toast?"

"Yes, some toast will be good." My father responded.

"Coming right up Father," I said. He always makes me make his toast. I started making the toast on the pan, my family doesn't have a toaster at home. Once the toast finished I gave 3 to my Father and then left with my toast. I have to hurry to meet up with the others.

After a while of running, I finally reached the shop. "Hey Harps," A familiar voice said. "You're late again." It was Lilly.

"Hey Lilly," I responded, "I'm sorry for being late, I had to make some toast again."

Lilly chuckled, "Toast again? Your family really needs to invest in a toaster, Harps."

I laughed and nodded. "Tell me about it. Anyway, what are we working on today?"

As we walked into the storage room, we discussed our plans for the day and got to work on our project. It was just another day, but spending time with friends always made it special.

"Did you hear, a new girl is coming to school this week," Lilly said "I heard that she got in trouble for beating up a kid."

"I heard about that too," I replied, "But I think we should give her a chance. Maybe she's just had a rough time and needs someone to understand her."

Lilly nodded thoughtfully. "You're right, Harps. Maybe we can be there for her and help her feel welcome."

We continued working on our work, but the news about the new girl lingered in my mind. I couldn't help but wonder what her story was and how we could make her feel included. As we brainstormed ideas for welcoming the new student, I felt grateful for friends like Lilly who shared my compassion and willingness to help others.

"When are the others coming?" I asked.

"They should be here any minute now," Lilly replied. "We can start planning when they arrive."

Just then, our other friends, Max and Jordan, walked into the storage room. "Hey, guys, what's up?" Max greeted us.

"We were just discussing the new girl who's joining our school this week," Lilly informed them.

"Yeah, I heard about her," Jordan said. "I think it's important for us to make her feel welcome. It can't be easy joining a new school, especially after getting in trouble."

Max nodded in agreement. "We should definitely come up with some ideas to help her settle in."

As a group, we brainstormed various ways to make the new girl feel included and supported. By the time we finished, we had a solid plan in place for welcoming her to our school.

My friends and I may have different interests and personalities, but our shared empathy and kindness always brought us together. I looked forward to putting our plan into action and making a positive impact on someone's life.

"Hey Jordan, are you still single?" I teased.

"You're still on about that?" Jordan questioned.

"You didn't say no," I remarked.

"But I didn't say yes either." Jordan sharply replied.

"Guys cut it out," Max said intervening in our little argument "We all know that Jordan's ass is still single." Lilly chuckled and we all went back to working on our project.

"SO do you guys think that we should talk about the separate classes of the 'supernatural classes' or the unfairness of society?" I asked.

They all gave me a blank stare, then Lilly spoke "Harps, I know you are passionate about proving discrimination but I don't think that would be wise as you are the only demon in our school, and as you know, demons are the most discimated."

"I know, I don't know why I suggested that idea."

"It's ok Harps, we know that you are quite the activist," Max said "And besides, the pea-brained classmates of ours won't believe a thing."

I smiled then said, "Thanks, guys."

The next hours we productively worked on our project. I didn't want to do the talking at all.

"So who's doing the talking?" Max asked.

I abruptly exclaimed, "Not me!"

"Ok, If Harps isn't doing it who else?" Jordan asked. Everyone stayed silent.

Why is everyone so quiet, did they think I would be good for this? You know what, fuck it. "You know what," I said, "I'll do it science y'all won't."

"You know you don't have to, right?" Max questioned with a surprised tone.

"I know," I replied, "I'll try not to rant."

Some hours of working later, we all went home. I hope Father is passed out by now, I don't want to make another dinner. When I entered the house I saw my Father, indeed he was passed out. He is the only wolf-variant in my family. There are many variants, I'm a demon-variant. Thank the gods that he's out cold. I went up to my room and packed up my school bag. I don't need sleep, I'll just read at my window until the morning. I took off my jacket and grabbed my book. I made myself real comparable on my window and began to read. This is nice. I Stretched out my wings and started to read, read till dawn, read till I needed to stop.
