Chapter 9 - Chapter 9

My phone rang from where I'd left it on my bed and I closed the textbook I'd been reading, getting up to answer it.

My mother's number flashed on the screen and I hesitated before finally picking it up.

"What took you so long! I have much more important things to do than wait around for you to pick up your phone." I flinched as she yelled over the phone.

"Apologies, Mother. I was studying."

"Of course you were."

The disdain in her voice was obvious over the phone and I rolled my eyes at her tone.

"I believe you're aware tomorrow night is the premiere of your sister's latest movie. Your father and I expect to see you there, its strictly by invite, so I'll have my secretary send over your ticket as well as an appropriate dress."

"I'm being allowed to go?" I asked excitedly.

I'd never attended an official event with my family before, Emilia had started going with them when we turned 10, but Mother had forbidden me from going.

"Yes, Rachel. Try to keep up will you? I'm lifting your ban, though it is against my better judgement."

"Thank you, thank you, thank you. I'm sure her movie will be a massive hit." I was practically bouncing off the walls at this point.

"Of course it will, Lord knows I'm glad I have at least one useful child." Her words hit hard, but I shut down those emotions and pushed them aside.

"Anything else?"

"Do not take that insolent tone with me, child"

"My apologies mother" I muttered under my breath and she huffed.

"My personal assistant will send over the remaining instructions along with your dress and shoes tomorrow morning. Have you ended your relationship with that boy yet?"

"Jacob?"

"Yes, that one. If you haven't, then I expect you to do it before your wedding. I will not have you ruining this for me."

"Yes Mother." I rolled my eyes again, there was absolutely no way I was leaving Jacob.

"Oh, and could you at least try to look pretty this time? There'll be countless cameras and I do not want you to make our family look bad."

My fists clenched in anger, but there was nothing I could do and besides I was practically used to it at this point.

"I believe that is all. Do not be late." She hung up, and I sighed and went back to my books. It looked like I wouldn't be free tomorrow like I'd thought.

The door to my room bounced open and I jumped.

"Hey, babe" Jacob called as I wiped the trail of drool on my face. I'd fallen asleep studying.

"Hey," I called rubbing my eyes. "I thought you had a test."

"Yeah, but it got cancelled so I thought I'd come see you, and we could spend the weekend together," he put his things on the floor and jumped on my bed. "What you doing? Come join me."

"Sorry, I can't," I stretched my arms over my head and winced as my joints popped. "I have a test to study for," I checked the time and groaned, I'd slept for 2 hours.

Two hours I didn't have to waste if I was going to be attending the premiere tomorrow.

"Come on, babe," he groaned. "It's Friday and your test is on Monday, relax a little," he groaned lying like a starfish on my bed.

"I practically gave up my entire weekend just to be with you, and you want to spend the entire time staring at a book," he pat the bed and gave me his biggest smile.

"I didn't ask you to come, you know," I shot back, rubbing my throbbing head, I hadn't slept properly in a while, and it was showing.

His face fell the moment the words were out of my mouth and I instantly felt guilty, he'd been trying to be nice and I'd been plain horrible.

"Damn, I'll get out of your hair"

"I'm truly sorry," I called out to him. "I didn't mean that, I've just been extremely stressed preparing for this test and now my mum wants me to attend the premiere for my sister's new movie."

I rubbed my head trying to stop the pounding in it.

"Damn, you've really got it bad," He flopped back onto my bed and patted the space next to him.

"Come on, come lay next to me, and we can spend the rest of the day watching your favourite movies and just relaxing."

I curled up next to him and snuggled into him as he turned on the TV, he kissed my forehead and I giggled and curled deeper into him as my favourite movie started playing.

The next morning, I was woken by the constant ringing of the doorbell. I cursed whoever it was and pulled the covers over my head, maybe they'd go away if I ignored it.

Unfortunately, luck wasn't on my side, and they kept ringing it over and over again.

"Answer it," Jacob groaned next to me throwing an arm over his face.

I huffed and got out of bed. "I'm coming, I'm coming," I called as I pulled open the door grumbling.

"Ms. Sanders." It was my mother's personal assistant. Just like every other time I'd seen her, she was dressed perfectly, nothing less than the best for Elizabeth Sanders, of course.

"Ms. Elliot, good morning. What are you doing here?"

"Your mother asked me to bring you this," She said gesturing to the boxes she was carrying.

I cursed under my breath, I'd completely forgotten about the premiere today. Jacob and I had stayed awake all night watching my favourite movies and then his. We'd eventually gone to bed around 6 this morning.

"Thank you," I replied taking them from her. I could feel her eyes going over me critically and judging, I bent my head in shame and my face went red with embarrassment. I was currently wearing Jacob's shirt and my hair was a mess.

"She also asked that you do your best to look good today. There will be pictures of course with both your sister and the rest of your family except for your younger brother. Your fiancé will be there as well, and you are expected to take some pictures with him because they weren't able to get any of you together last time. The red carpet is by 7 and the event starts at 8. A car will be by to pick you up, so do make sure you don't delay. The event is structured by invite and your ticket is in the box along with your dress, shows, the recommend makeup from your mother and a picture of the way she expects you to look tonight. Any questions?"

She asked, and I shook my head mutely trying to absorb all the information.

"Good," She said, and then she turned and walked back to the car waiting for her.

"Who was it?" Jacob asked when I walked back into our room.

"My mum's personal assistant, she brought some things I needed for tonight."
