At 4:15 am ,her alarm clock's soft trill pierced the quiet darkness, signaling a new day's arrival.
The night sky was a deep blue, with stars twinkling . The city's lights cast a soft glow, while the streets were quiet and still, except for the occasional taxi or distant subway rumble.
Thea arose, her heart still laden with grief.
She swiftly dressed in dark denim and a white top.
A car idled outside, its engine purring gently, arranged by Elizabeth with her safety in mind.
Thea had shared her plans with Elizabeth, Ryder's mom, asking her to keep the secret hidden from Ryder.
The short drive flew by, the road empty and shrouded in darkness.
Upon arrival, Thea's emotions surged.
She spotted Ryder, accompanied by his parents and Grandparents..She hurried towards them.
Her eyes fixed intently on his.
"Ryder!" she wailed, her voice quivering.
Ryder turned, his eyes locking onto hers, and enfolded her in a tender grasp.
Thea surrendered to his arms, her emotions surging.
"I'll be devastated by your departure.." she whispered.
Ryder's hold intensified, his voice filled with reassurance.
"I'll be heartbroken too, Thea. But my return will be imminent."
Thea clung tightly, tears saturating Ryder's shirt.
Eventually, she released him, wiping away her tears, her eyes rosy and puffy.
"I'll persevere through the separation."
Ryder's eyes filled with compassion as he helped her wipe her tears.
"It's okay, Thea. I'll be back soon." he said, his voice soft.
Thea handed him a parcel, her hands trembling faintly.
"Grandma prepared a gift for you. Don't forget to try it and let her know what you think."
"Alright, I will."
Ryder's parents and grandparents observed their exchange and exchanged a warm glance, their eyes radiating affection.
Finally, it was time for him to depart.
"Be safe, son." Elizabeth said, his parents embracing him firmly.
"You too." Ryder replied.
With a warmth that belied his strict nature, Elder Edward's voice cracked as he said, "Ryder, take care of yourself." His eyes shone with love and concern for his cherished grandson.
"Hmm grandpa..you too.."
Ryder went to hug his parents, Grandparents ,then turned to Thea and wrapped his arms around her, holding her close.
"Ryder, I'll yearn for you deeply.." Thea uttered.
"I'll long for you too, Thea. But I'll return before you know it. Study hard and grow," he said, his voice filled with reassurance. After a few moments, Ryder pulled back and looked at Thea. "I have to go now." he said, his voice soft.
Thea nodded, "I know. Go be safe, Ryder."
Ryder smiled and kissed her forehead. "I will. I'll be back soon, Thea." he said, his voice filled with promise.
Ryder moved toward the departure gate, and Thea hailed him. "Ryder!"
He spun around, his gaze curious.
"Don't forget, we'll be longing for your return." Thea said, her eyes sparkling with tears.
Ryder's face illuminated with a warm smile. "I'll remember, Thea. I'll be back in no time." he replied.
With a last look at Thea, Ryder was poised to leave. Then, a voice hailed him again, "Ryder!"
He looked back to identify who called.
