Chapter 40 - Aftermath

Black Stone Territory, in a civilian home.

A large number of guards surrounded the place. Knight Iman, clad in armor, charged in first, kicking open the door.

Smack!

"Ah... my lord!"

A woman by the soup pot was so frightened that she dropped the spoon in her hand. A farmer beside her knelt on the ground: "My lord... you... you..."

Several children started crying.

"No one is in the back!"

Eight Fingers also came in. He looked at the scene with confusion on his face: "Could it be... the information was incorrect?!"

This looked like an ordinary family. How could they be related to the mastermind?

Knight Iman's expression was stern. He suddenly stepped forward, scooped a ladle of soup, put it in his mouth, tasted it, and a smile appeared on his face: "The soup has salt and meat in it... When did ordinary farmers start eating so well? Or... were you preparing this for someone else? Search the place!"

The farmer's face instantly turned ashen, and then a group of soldiers rushed in, smashing everything.

"There's a cellar!"

Eight Fingers searched every inch of the floor and suddenly pulled up an iron ring, shouting.

When the cover was lifted, it revealed a passage leading downward.

Knight Iman, with a stern expression, was the first to charge in.

"This really is... fighting tooth and nail to clear his name."

Eight Fingers shook his head and followed.

Before long, the sound of weapons clashing and a few screams came from the cellar.

A man with blood on his face was dragged out by Eight Fingers like a dead dog: "Delicate skin and tender flesh, must be a nobleman! Knight Iman, do you recognize him?"

"Jon Davis!"

Knight Iman nodded: "A branch member of the Davis Family, missing since the Black Crow War..."

"Well, the case is solved."

A hint of a smile appeared on Eight Fingers' face.

...

The next day.

While having breakfast, Alan listened to Albert's report.

A wise man does not stand under a dangerous wall. As a lord, he had subordinates to handle things for him; there was no need for him to risk his life. The effect of spirituality had already passed...

Moreover, that Knight Iman was charging in the front lines for him.

He just needed to stay in the safe villa and quietly wait for the results.

"After interrogation, Jon also confessed to a hidden organization plotting against us and provided a list..."

Albert handed a list to Alan.

Alan took a sip of meat soup and casually glanced at it: "As expected, the remnants of the Davis Family... But they will only get weaker and are not worth worrying about."

"About the follow-up of this matter..." Albert hesitantly asked.

"Have Knight Iman execute Jon personally, then write a report on the matter and send a copy to Sothos Fort; let that be the end of it."

Alan waved his hand.

The aftermath of this matter would soon pass.

Additionally, there was an invisible benefit: being caught up in such a big event, Knight Iman was flustered and quickly returned to his territory, with no time to think about proposing marriage again.

...

Dream World.

Diatt.

The former department store, now a branch of the Light of Salvation Cult.

Olivia, Lin, and some ordinary people were praying.

"Praise to Our Lord!"

"You are the wandering spirit of the unknown, the existence of absolute neutrality, the silent observer..."

"You are the symbol of free will, the sole savior of the apocalypse, the supreme light..."

"Please hear the prayers of your followers, please cast your merciful gaze upon us...

..."

'Symbol of free will? When did I get such a title? You guys, stop making things up...'

Alan watched this scene, his eyelid twitching, and then connected the 'link.'

"My Lord!"

Lin trembled all over, showing an expression of reverence.

While Olivia's body was constantly trembling.

After truly coming into contact with this great being, she could fully sense that he was definitely an existence equal to the [Cocoon].

That kind of... indescribable and unperceivable terrifying existence!

Moreover, he did not erode her rationality; instead, he was as warm as the winter sun!

The little doubts and confusion she had completely disappeared.

"There are already so many people?"

Alan glanced at Lin's cult and saw that there were already more than twenty people. Of course, only two of them were extraordinary people.

As such, only these two could sense his existence after the mysterious connection was established.

As for the other mortals, they could only look on in confusion or pray more devoutly.

He quietly listened to Lin's report, affirmed her contribution to the cult's development, agreed to her 'request' to set up another permanent altar here, and then disconnected the connection.

"Our Lord has turned his gaze away..."

Lin stood up and announced loudly: "But He watches over us, watching each and every one of us! He has affirmed our piety and allowed us to build a second sanctuary dedicated to Him..."

The ordinary members of the Light of Salvation cheered, and Olivia also smiled.

Then, as the ordinary members began collecting materials to build the altar, the two high-level members of the Light of Salvation gathered together.

"Can you feel it? That is our merciful Lord..."

Lin said softly.

"How merciful, how tolerant..." Olivia wiped the corner of her eyes: "I can't wait to get closer to our Lord..."

Compared to [Black Sun], [Cocoon], and other existences, this one was indeed kind enough, and held goodwill toward humanity, which was so rare!

Lin's small face wrinkled slightly: "It's a pity that we have not yet gained our Lord's recognition to bestow upon us His path..."

"As long as we persist in faith and sacrifice, one day, the Lord will grant us everything..." Olivia declared firmly.

"You are wrong, I do not grant you a path because I really have none..."

Alan watched from the side, involuntarily twitching the corner of his mouth.

However, he was also curious about what mysterious path the energy generated by his Dream Entry might lead to.

"Come to think of it, using this mysterious energy to strengthen my own consciousness has become increasingly less effective... It's not as efficient as protecting believers and then letting them sacrifice their spirituality to me in a triangular trade... Spirituality itself originates from mysterious energy, from me. So why, after being sacrificed, can it break the world's shackles and enter reality?"

Alan had this question in his heart, but he also knew that this was not something he could understand right now.

"Speaking of which, it would be great to find a way in reality to utilize the mysterious power, even if the cost is a bit high..."

At this moment, a cult member ran in panic, shouting, "Holy Maiden, Bishop... something has happened!"

Alan followed Lin and Olivia to another room, where they saw an injured person lying down.

On his arm, there was a layer of pitch-black, sticky flame, still burning continuously. Strangely, the temperature was not very high. Instead, it made people feel cold.

The burned follower was unconscious, and his vital signs had dropped to an extremely weak level.

"Barnard, what is going on here?" Olivia asked the informant.

"We were ordered to go out to search for supplies and survivors, then we encountered a group of people. They were wearing black clerical robes and had burn scars on them. They wanted to recruit us into their cult. Of course, we refused, and that's how the conflict started..."

Barnard said with shame.

He used to be a soldier, well-trained, and was one of the best among the ordinary people in the Light of Redemption.

Along with firearms, he could even put up a fight against strange creatures. But at this moment, his forehead was covered in cold sweat, evidently terrified.

"It's the Black Sun Cult. Their influence has spread here." Lin gritted her teeth and said.
