Chapter 42 - The Trap

"The strength of the cultists at this base is indeed not strong... There's no need to remind them, let them figure things out on their own to increase their actual combat experience."

Alan darted around inside the Black Sun base, already familiar with the strength of the cultists there. He decided to sit on the sidelines and watch the show.

The next day.

Diatt, Wutong Wood Street.

A tattered, rusty sign lay on its side, the breeze lifting abandoned old newspapers.

'Red-haired' Lem was executing his patrol mission in boredom when his eyes suddenly lit up.

He saw a girl about fourteen or fifteen years old, holding a bag of food, entering a certain building.

"Is that... Lin? Although she's grown quite a bit, that face... there's no mistaking it."

Lem couldn't believe he had actually encountered someone on the organization's wanted list, and excitement shone on his face.

"If I could sacrifice her to the [Black Sun], maybe my Lord would directly promote me to 'Child of Flame,' or even 'Darkness Chaser'!"

He licked his lips, unable to suppress the greed showing on his face.

But soon, Lem reminded himself: "No! This woman is very dangerous, a Moon Protector who caused the Blood Moon Massacre, and many Unburnt have died by her hand as well... Quickly, notify Lord Mass!"

Lem crouched low, hiding into the darkness.

He didn't notice that in the corner, an old spider web was gently vibrating.

Invisible tremors traveled along the silk threads, reaching into the building.

Olivia opened her previously closed eyes: "That person left. He seems very cautious... Next, those cultists will probably come out in full force. I hope the trap we set is effective..."

"What a pity... I thought he would just charge right in and give me some fun." Lin regretted as she looked at her hand.

"No more fun... Now, it's going to be a big battle."

Olivia's expression turned unprecedentedly firm.

Unlike her earlier weak and passive self, she now had faith, and this time, she was fighting for that faith!

"I've already figured out their combat strength: one Child of Flame, three to four Unburnt... They would never expect that I still have you."

A hint of a smile appeared on Lin's face.

"Is it here?"

Mass looked at the building in front of him, a sneer appearing on his face.

"Yes, the target entered here and hasn't left for a long time, it should be a base." Red-haired Lem said fawningly.

"Very good. If we succeed this time, I won't forget you." Mass was very pleased, feeling like today was his lucky day.

Not only had the city's development been swift, but they had also located an important fugitive of the organization!

"Sir, how should we proceed with the capture?"

One Unburnt asked, his thin and lean frame holding a Revolver.

"Two of you guard the rear door while we charge right in... With our absolute strength, that person has nowhere to hide."

Mass confidently laid out the plan.

Once everyone was in position, a gleam of fanaticism flashed in his eyes, and a blazing fire appeared in his hand. He pushed it forward.

Boom!

The fireball expanded in midair like a grenade, blowing open the building's door.

"Go!"

The remaining three rushed into the building, led by the tall, thin man.

They quickly ran through the corridor, spotting a food-stacked room with its door wide open.

A red dress disappeared around the corner.

"Target sighted, pursue!"

Mass's spiritual sense trembled, confirming that the person was indeed Lin!

The tall, thin Unburnt sprinted around the corner, seeing Lin's back and raising his gun.

Lin hadn't exposed much of her abilities in the town, so he didn't know she had the skill to turn into blood.

After aiming, a smile appeared on the Unburnt's face, as if he could already see her back exploding, blood splattering.

Poof!

In the next moment, his expression froze, his head flying off, and his headless body collapsed to the ground.

"What happened?"

Mass and another cultist stopped in their tracks, suddenly noticing a transparent thread hanging in midair, with drops of blood sliding down it.

The other cultist swallowed, imagining the scenario where the unlucky guy in high-speed motion slammed right into the thread at the neck.

"Damn... it's the height… Based on the height of the thread, that little girl can run right under it, while an adult's neck would get caught..."

Mass touched his own throat, breaking out in a cold sweat: "What a cunning little thing."

He no longer dared to move at high speeds, slowing his steps and ducking to avoid the trap.

Poof!

Just then, the nearby door exploded, and a blood-red blade suddenly pierced out.

Mass seemed to have eyes on his back, dodging quickly, but another cultist was stabbed in the chest, collapsing limply.

— Blood Weapon Transformation!

Lin opened the door expressionlessly, stepping out, one hand still in the shape of a Dagger.

"Using traps to kill my men, and yet you didn't run, instead hiding to ambush?"

Mass squinted his eyes: "You've grown a lot... Lin!"

"What happened to Ike?"

Lin hissed.

"He died long ago. Not only did he die, but his bones were also made into exhibits by the High Priest!"

A nasty smile appeared on Mass's face, spitting out words like venom.

In the moment Lin was distracted, he moved!

A mass of pitch-black flames was directly thrown out by him.

Boom!

The pitch-black flames exploded. Even though Lin had already dodged, her left arm was still burned.

Her arm instantly turned into blood, severing the flames attached to it. It reformed into a perfectly intact arm, though her expression was slightly pale, and she charged forward wielding a Dagger.

"Damn it!"

Mass had not yet had time to celebrate when he noticed Lin's attack. The Dagger dangerously grazed past his abdomen, making him awkwardly dodge.

"You little bitch!"

He cursed, pulling out a black stone from his bosom. On the stone's surface, flame-like patterns wriggled: "You've indeed reached the Second Stage, but why do I still dare to pursue you? It's not because I brought a bunch of useless subordinates, but because of this!"

As Mass spoke, he threw out the black stone.

Snap!

In an instant, Lin's vision disappeared.

No, it didn't disappear. Instead, all the surrounding light seemed to be absorbed by that stone!

'Darkness Descends'!

This was an ability belonging to the Third Stage – 'Darkness Stalker'!

And the Black Sun Cultists could gain good vision in the dark.

Boom!

In the darkness, there were muffled groans from Lin and several explosions.

Finally, the darkness faded away.

Lin collapsed softly to the ground.
