Chapter 12 - First day at work- III

The countries and continents might have been different, but the work was the same. The movement may push Brandon into the tonn of words that had already been waiting for him,  he realized that it was quite similar. Almost the same, we had kept up with and just as Megan had said, she was accommodating. She was willing to explain whatever needed to be.

But of course, it had been six months since he had last worked at a desk job and now it seems to be very tedious and heavy on his back. Not to mention, he felt sleepy.

His hand reached out for the cup of coffee, but the moment the cup touched his lips, he was quick to realize that it was empty. So it was another trip to the cafeteria. Thankfully, they supplied free coffee.

"Did you hear him?" A giggle followed. "Aye aye captain would have been bect."

Aye aye captain? Bran frowned. What were they talking about?

"He is British. Have you heard him talk? Yum."

"Yum is the accent, but have you seen his face? It looks like a little girl." Someone snickered. "Brandon? Name of a prince and he looks poshy too but the face clearly belongs to a little princess yet to hit puberty."

His heart skipped a beat. They were talking about him and not only were they talking about him behind his back, he was making fun of his face, looking like a girl.

A girl.

Fuck, he lowered his head and kept his palms on the table, just as the coffee machine started to work and fill his cup.

"I know his face—Oh! Hi!" The voice now was quite near. Like the girl was in the room with him. Brandon turned around and recognised her to be someone sitting in the cubicle behind him.

"You are the new hire, right? Brandon?"

"Brandon Wallace." He deepened his voice more than necessary, something he had not done for a long time. "Pleasure to meet you."

"I am Marie." She offered her hand and Bran took it. "I have been working here for the past three years."

"It is my first day." He irked him to even smile at her, and Brandon could only take so much of it before the world slipped out. "Three years, huh? You must know who gossips behind who? Do I need to be watching out for someone?"

Marie chuckled, but she panicked under the exterior she showed too. "Well, gossip is not encouraged in the company. So you know, no one talks behind anyone's back. I mean, people to talk, but no one gossips

An escape. So he indulged her. "I suppose gossip and talking are the same in American dictionaries for you. Anyway, nice chat."

Throwing one last smile in her direction, he took the coffee and moved out of the small cafeteria. That bitch was the one who was going to avoid it for the rest of his time here.

Just as he stepped outside of the small small room into the corner, he met Megan.

"Ah," she turned towards him, " I was looking for you. Do you know that you are in the position just under mine?"

"I am aware."

"That's good. That also means that if I'm not available, you will have to step inform me. And sometimes, I am burdened with things, which means I cannot be at two places at one time. So automatically, you will be the one stepping in."

This soon? His palms were sweaty again.

"So, I'm going to take you to a few meetings before you can actually attend one by yourself. Can you spare yourself within the next ten minutes to come with me to a meeting?"

"Ten," he thought about the work he was going to do, and the one he was doing then he nodded, "yes, I actually can."

"Great." Megan let out a brief sigh, " I'll find you at your desk in ten."
