Jonathan stared at her stubborn little face, annoyed by the accusations and distrust from someone who had always been so gentle. This was really just a misunderstanding. He genuinely wanted to live a good life with her and had no intentions with Catherine. He was merely trying to calm Catherine down. He hadn't expected Clarisse to choose not to believe him.
Clarisse looked at him calmly,
"I want a divorce!"
"Impossible!"
Jonathan immediately denied her without thinking. She just smiled faintly,
"If Catherine can threaten you with death to keep you by her side, then I will threaten you with death to let me leave!"
Jonathan stared at her in disbelief. She was threatening him with death to leave him? The transformation from deep love to such loathing and resolute departure was the most brutal blow to his pride. He wished he could strangle her,
"Clarisse, what exactly do you want?"
He had already explained, what more did she want?
