The grand and brilliantly lit Farah mansion.
Farah was in a rage, smashing the antiques her father cherished. The whole family sat there watching her tantrum: her father, the gambling king Morris; her mother; and her several brothers.
"Let me go! I want to see Bruno! I want to be with Bruno!"
"Have you caused enough trouble yet?"
Finally, her mother couldn't take it anymore and stepped forward, grabbing her.
"What's so good about that poor boy? How dare you defy us like this!"
"He's good everywhere, even if he has no money!"
Farah shouted, her eyes blazing red, "I'll never be like you, marrying Dad for money!"
Farah's mother was Morris's second wife, twenty years younger than him. It was clear she had married for money. Enraged by Farah's words, she slapped her across the face, leaving five bright red marks on her fair skin in moments.
