Jonathan's question deflected her doubt effortlessly. Just as she was about to say something else, he noticed how she was shivering and quickly took off his coat, placing it around her shoulders.
"You and Josie wait in the car; I'll take care of the rest," he said.
She was slender, and he was tall, so the coat covered both her and Josie entirely, warming them instantly with his body heat. She glanced at him, feeling guilty seeing him in only a thin cashmere sweater in the cold.
"No need—" she started to protest.
"Would you really let Josie and yourself freeze?" he interrupted her firmly. She fell silent, and he ushered them into the car. After tucking them in, he turned and walked towards her apartment.
She watched him, worried about the cold in his light clothing. Leaning out the car window, she called after him, "Wear your coat!"
