Chapter 28 - 28: Uneasy Silence**

Eric sat in his downtown office, his eyes fixed on the clock. It had been hours since the group left for the mission, and he hadn't received any updates. He drummed his fingers on the desk, his anxiety growing with each passing minute. He grabbed his phone, repeatedly checking for messages or missed calls, but there was nothing.

"Where the hell are they?" he muttered under his breath, his worry turning to frustration. He had expected to hear the news of Ethan's lab being reduced to ashes by now. The silence was unnerving.

Meanwhile, in his prison cell, Edgar Vance paced back and forth, his eyes constantly flicking to the barred window. He was eagerly awaiting a call from Eric, expecting to hear the triumphant news of the lab's destruction. Each minute that passed without word felt like an eternity.

"Why haven't they called?" Vance growled, his patience wearing thin. He had meticulously planned this attack, and any delay could mean trouble. He couldn't afford another failure. His mind raced with worst-case scenarios, but he quickly pushed them aside, clinging to the hope that everything had gone according to plan.

Back at the lab, the atmosphere was completely different. Ethan and his team had gathered in the conference room, the table laden with boxes of pizzas and drinks. The room buzzed with laughter and relief as they celebrated their victory.

"To our success!" Luis declared, raising a soda can in a mock toast.

"Cheers!" the team echoed, clinking their drinks together.

Anya took a bite of her pizza, smiling at Ethan. "We did it, Ethan. We really did it."

Ethan grinned back at her. "We couldn't have done it without everyone working together. This is just the beginning."

Kai leaned back in his chair, looking at Joe. "You were amazing out there, Joe. Your plan worked perfectly."

Joe shrugged modestly. "It was a team effort. Everyone played their part."

Luis chuckled. "I think you deserve an extra slice of pizza for that. Maybe even two."

The room filled with laughter again, the tension of the past few days finally melting away. For a moment, they allowed themselves to bask in their hard-earned victory.

As the celebration continued, Joe's phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen and saw a message from one of his operatives. He opened it and quickly read the update, a satisfied smile spreading across his face.

"They've taken the intruders into custody," Joe announced to the group. "They won't be bothering us again anytime soon."

Ethan raised his drink. "To Joe and his team, our unsung heroes."

Joe nodded, feeling a warmth in his chest. Despite the challenges they faced, moments like these made it all worthwhile. They had protected Project Lazarus and each other, proving that together, they were unstoppable.

As the night wore on, the team continued to celebrate, their bond growing stronger with each shared laugh and story. They knew the fight wasn't over, but for now, they could savor their victory and recharge for the battles ahead.

In his office, Eric's frustration boiled over. He slammed his phone down on the desk, cursing under his breath. "What the hell happened out there?"

In his cell, Vance stopped pacing, a dark scowl on his face. He knew something had gone wrong, and his patience was wearing thin. "Eric better have a damn good explanation," he muttered, his mind already scheming their next move.
