Chapter 1 - Prologue

"Loraine! My dear sister! How I've missed you!" I shouted as I wrapped my arms around her.

At long last, she is here! I was certain she would come to find me. I made the right choice by waiting quietly and calmly.

"I've missed you terribly! I thought we'd never see each other again. Let me get a good look at your face. I must say, you're even more beautiful than when we last met."

She stared at me; her gaze was intense and silent, not a single word escaping her lips. Even though I knew she did not like being touched without warning, I felt an overwhelming sense of joy and warmth when she walked in, and my excitement was simply too much to control.

"Why are you wearing a black dress? You look rather frightening with it on." I said jokingly.

Her facial expression was so still, so devoid of movement, that it appeared almost stagnant, fixed in a perpetual state of unchanging stillness. Then, with a deep, shaky sigh, she glanced over at Sir Raulin, his armor glinting in the dim light.

"Kill the lights, Raulin." She commanded in a threatening tone.

With the room falling into immediate darkness, reflecting only the pale moonlight from outside, her eyes didn't so much as blink, maintaining their unwavering focus. A wave of inexplicable fear washed over me, a feeling entirely at odds with the comforting presence of my sister; I was safe, not facing a murderer. Just then, with no warning, an intense pain shot through the left side of my abdomen, causing me to wince unexpectedly. As my gaze dropped, I was shocked to discover a dagger embedded in my body; the perpetrator being none other than my sister, a sight that filled me with disbelief and a deep sense of betrayal.
