"Change?" he laughed. "What do you think, Sienna? Do you think someone hired me to come after your family? You think I work for someone else?"
"Well, that's what I'm getting from you, Monty. I did know why you killed them. What did my father do to deserve this?"
"Deserve it? That's rich. Your father ruined my life, Sienna. He took everything from me—my family, our business, our future. And you're standing here, acting like you have no idea?"
I blinked, trying to piece it all together. "The resort. It was about the resort, wasn't it?"
Monty's eyes darkened. "It was about more than just the resort. Your father didn't just take our land. He crushed us. He crushed every single person who stood in his way, including my father. We lost everything, and when my father couldn't take it anymore, he ended it. And your father didn't care. Not one bit."
I could feel the tears welling in my eyes, but I blinked them back. "I didn't know."
