Amelia POV
"Thank you," I murmured, my voice tight.
The security lady only nodded, winking in response and I hurried inside. The smell of disinfectant and the faint sound of children playing hit my senses. I made my way toward the reception area, my eyes scanning the room until they landed on Elaine.
Her heart clenched at the sight of my daughter. She was sitting at a small table, her head resting on her arms as she aimlessly tapped her forehead against the wooden surface. Her eyes were shut, and though she wasn't asleep, she appeared completely disconnected from the world around her. My stomach twisted with worry.
