Chapter 61
Flange Orphanage, City: Three Prongs Fork, Republic of Shantu, Continent: Barat, the Year 2023, Planet: Grimoire
Once Moline was certain that the couple and their children were gone. He'd filed an official complaint against them citing everything that happened while they'd been on the grounds. In the process, he submitted all the evidence recorded through video, audio, and the testimonies from all his employees.
Those kids had been very thorough when it came to the destruction of property. They'd even trashed all the gardens and tried poisoning the grain and feeding off the livestock.
A sigh escaped Moline. "I don't know why they did that." Now he faced Commander Darmono who was immediately put in charge of this case.
Moline was exasperated, but not surprised when that happened. "Well, other than using the excuse to search for something that was illegally obtained and concealed on the grounds." He ran his hands through his hair. "That's not including the damage they inflicted upon Tinroy and his cousins."
Darmono grunted. "Well, a probationary officer will be assigned to this case." He informed Moline. "I happen to know him. He will do his level best to make sure that no charges will be brought against you."
That sounded a tad ominous to Moline. "Is there something I should know about that obnoxious family?"
Darmono grimaced. "They're one of the royal collateral lines sent as emissaries from the Empire of Roxana."
Emissaries from the Roxana Empire? Moline closed his eyes. "I'd hoped never to have dealings with them again." No wonder he'd found that madam's perfume obscene. It was the fragrance of choice when attempting to seduce an adult. "They seemed to have the presumption that I would fall head over heels for that disgusting woman." He related what else happened.
There was silence as Darmono heard him out. "Are you serious about that happening? It wasn't included in the report."
Moline hadn't thought it was relevant so no he hadn't included it. "Yes, I can prepare a separate report." He sighed. "I'd truly hoped that it wouldn't be needed. Is it now considered an official crime to reject advances?"
Darmono shook his head. "Quite the opposite." He sounded admiring of the fact that Moline had literally rejected the woman out of hand. "Rather they'll be convicted of several charges to harm and inflict physical damage on a person of importance within the Shantu Republic."
My goodness, times had changed in that benighted empire. Moline was taken aback that there was no protection in place when it came to what emissaries and ambassadors couldn't get away with. That was a relief for him because Moline might've been forcibly extradited for a criminal trial otherwise.
Darmono further alleviated his concern about that potential future when he stated. The fact that you did all that you could to preserve your honor will also be taken into account."
Moline heaved a sigh of relief. "I'm certainly glad to hear that. I was beginning to wonder if that uncomfortable interview was ever going to end." He'd been at his wit's end trying to find a polite way of rejecting them.
In the end, he'd had to be both rude and forceful in ejecting them from his orphanage and home. Moline hadn't enjoyed doing that, but he hadn't wanted to suffer their presence any longer either.
"Well, then," He typed a neat and concise secondary report detailing everything he'd had to tolerate from that insufferably rude couple. "I've now included the last report that needed to be made." He noticed the lowering of shadows. "It is getting late, and I need to attend at least one meal for the day."
All the others had been missed due to the unwelcome early arrival of those worthless people.
Darmono inclined his head. "Have a good meal." He smiled and closed the call.
Moline heaved a sigh of relief. "Now to join the others in the last meal of the day."
He rose to his feet and walked down to the banquet hall, where everyone was awaiting his presence. "Greetings, everyone can sit. We've all had a difficult day." He waved for everyone to take a seat. There was no point in making this more tiresome than it already became. "I'll delay the evening announcements until after we've eaten."
After all, the last meal had already been delayed by quite a bit. His report had taken longer than expected.
Everyone began eating with relish. Moline was pleased to note that no one was absent from the table. So even the worst troublemakers had managed to mind themselves despite the nasty provocations of those unwelcome visitors.
Once the meal ended, Moline sat observing everyone. At last, he sighed. "I know we had a difficult day, but I hope you know that we'll make it through safely to the end of the year." He smiled at all of them. "I did find some investors, but it wasn't the cretins that descended upon us today."
There was a cheer of relief. Moline laughed. "Now be off with you. I'll have a more complete list of announcements and roster changes starting tomorrow."
He watched all of them filing out, except for the majority of the adults. Clearly, they wanted a better idea of what happened throughout the day. Moline was more than willing to fill them in with the details of what occurred in his office.
When they also made reports, Moline was able to get details that he'd missed from other venues. Fortunately, they'd made official reports to the authorities when giving statements. "I'd say that this was for the birds. Let no further trouble descend upon us shortly." Even that much was pushing the fortunes of future luck, but Moline felt that he had to say something to cheer them up.
There was more laughter and even then, the adults began dispersing. tomorrow was after all yet another busy and fruitful day for all of them, with more harvests that needed completion.
With this eventful day ending, Director Moline found that he faced quite a dilemma. He hadn't intended to create what turned into an international incident. That's exactly what happened when he chased out that obnoxious Oryx couple with their dozen children.
Oh well, lesson learned. Stay up to date with the protocols of other kingdoms and empires. That would save him a lot of grief and harassment in the future.
