Hearing me say the fake name, everyone started cheering.
"Chosen Hero, Rudra."
"Chosen Hero, Rudra."
"Hero, Rudra."
I just hope saying a fake name doesn't bite me in the ass later.
Amid the commotion, people from the guild arrived.
"He defeated a True Dragon to save us. He's definitely a true hero."
"What are you guys talking about? Let us see." I saw some people arrive, looking like generic adventurers with their leather armor and swords at their hips.
From the chatter, I could tell they were from the Adventurers Guild. They arrived and quickly quieted the crowd.
Hmm… From their reaction, they seem like people with at least more than two brain cells. They can catch me as a fraud, right? I need to be careful.
"Huh, he looks formidable. Maybe he did defeat a True Dragon." Okay, hearing his reply, my disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined. In what way do I look formidable to you guys?
This skill is getting more and more scary. They didn't even see me fight, but somehow they believe I defeated some kind of 'True' Dragon.
As we made our way to the guild, people around me kept giving me looks like I was some kind of celebrity. And Jinrai hasn't stopped giving me that creepy sparkling-eye stare. I took him as a subordinate to get information; let's see what he knows about this world.
"Jinrai?" I called him out in an whisper, and his creepy sparkling eyes vanished as he gave me his full attention. "Where are we?"
"Umm… what do you mean?"
"I meant, what is this place called?"
"Oh… We're at Guratol County."
"And the country and continent?" I pressed further.
"Huh… You must really be a reincarnated ancient Hero… so cool." He muttered the last part under his breath, but I could guess what he said from his sparkling eyes.
"Ahem, this county is part of the Kingdom of Englassia. I don't know what a continent is, though. Sorry, Sir Hero."
"Hmm… No problem. So, what is this Adventurers Guild?"
"Uh… I don't know much. I just take quests from the quest board and try to complete them. You should ask the guild receptionists about that," he said bashfully, scratching his cheek. Well, he turned out to be useless.
But Anyway, everyone's creepy stares are getting tiring, to be honest.
After some more walking, we got out of the busy crowd's eyes. Now, if I deactivate the skill, I don't think I'll be killed by the crowd for controlling their perception.
Ugh, how do I deactivate it? Deactivate skill? Hello, system, please deactivate skill? Domain Expansion Deactivate Skill…, Chosen One Deactivate, Delete… Wait, do I have to do some kind of chunni stuff to deactivate it? Please don't be that. I might talk too much in my mind, but I'm practically a closet otaku. If I have to perform some kind of chunni action to deactivate the skill, I might die of embarrassment.
Okay… I think this skill can't be turned off…
"…"
"…"
Ahhh...
-------------x----------------
"Welcome to the Adventurers Guild… uh… Sir Hero?" Someone's voice broke me out of my quiet panic.
"Uh… Yes?"
"We've arrived at the Adventurers Guild."
Jinrai and I approached the receptionist at the desk.
"Welcome to the Free Guild—Adventurers Branch. What can I do for you?" she asked, her voice is perfect for that customer service tone.
"Hello, June. It's nice to see you. I've brought Sir Hero here."
"Uhh... What happened to your accent?" she asked, pointing at him.
"I… I see how foolish I was, I shall no longer remain the foolish person I was before. Sir Hero here has shown me the right way..." He declared, and everyone around stared at him with their jaws dropped.
I just stood there, my eyebrows twitching intensely. When the fuck did I teach him that? Is this my skill's doing as well? Now it's giving people knowledge and fake memories? The more time passes, the more terrifying this skill becomes, and I still haven't found a way to deactivate it.
"Ahem… I want to join as an adventurer." Hearing me say that, the receptionist returned to her customer service tone.
"Oh, yes. You just need to register. The registration requires you to fill out a form with information like your name, age, country, and specialty. After a waiting period of a day to a few days, you'll then be officially registered in the guild's database, and we'll issue you an ID card." She rattled off her explanation at super speed. Without magic language comprehension, I don't think I could have understood any of it.
"Hmmm, I have some questions." Uhh… I have a lot of questions, to be honest, but I don't want a long info dump.
"Yes… Please, ask away."
"What is this specialty you speak of? And what are the uses of this ID card?"
"Oh… Good questions. There are three kinds of quests in our Guild: Collection, Exploration, and Subjugation. Collection quests involve gathering a specified item from a nearby location within a certain time limit. Exploration quests include tracking monster movements, exploring ruins, and assessing threats. Subjugation quests involve killing or subjugating a monster equivalent in power to the rank of the adventurer."
So… In game terms, Collection quests are fetch quests, Exploration quests are adventuring quests, and Subjugation quests are monster-slaying quests. I can already guess which one is the most popular, but this is real life, not a game. Maybe I'll be surprised.
"Now, when it comes to specialty, it means which kind of task you're most proficient in. Are you enthusiastic about exploring? Then you can take the Exploration tasks. Are you good at gathering? Then you can choose Collection as your specialty. Are you good at fighting instead? Then you can take Subjugation as your specialty, but if you choose it, you need to be at least D+ rank to take on quests. Through your choice at registration, the guild will assign you appropriate-level quests."
"So, please register here by providing all of your information." She finished in just two breaths. We definitely have a perfect receptionist here…
She handed me the paper, and I started to read it.
"Uh... Miss, what does this 'Otherworlder' option mean here?"
