Kate sat on the couch just watching her phone as it rang beside her, the caller ID showing that it was Chris who was calling. He had called a few times before but she just ignored them, he even texted her but she just left them unread and whenever she was at Wendy's and Chris showed up she would leave abruptly saying she had something to do. The phone stops ringing giving her a sense of relief but then the screen lights up again indicating that she got a text, she picks up the phone to see that it was from Chris, it said that he was in front of the building. She checks to see if he's really there, which he is. She didn't know what to do and started panicking because Jake was supposed to be home soon. She quickly grabs her jacket and goes downstairs to see him, when she gets there she pauses leaving a big gap between them to which closes up as he walks toward her. "stop!" she says "just talk from there" she tells him "fine" he says as he stops moving "why are you avoiding me?" he asks "is it because of that day?" he asks again "Chris" she starts "the truth is I'm more than happy with my relationship and you're just confusing me, I don't want to ignore you but I also don't want to hurt Jake, I love him" she says, he sighs "I wasn't trying to confuse you, what happened then was just in the spur of the moment, I promise that if you stop running away from me nothing like that can ever happen again, it just feels uncomfortable with you acting like this" he says.
Wendy walks out of the room feeling not too well, her mom had already left for groceries, she walks into the living room to see an elegant emerald green satin evening gown with thin straps and a top half that clung onto her body and flowed down with a slit that started at her mid-thigh and ended at her feet, on the couch that her mom had left for her as she was to have dinner with her blind date tonight, it was a beautiful gown she thought.
Picking the dress up to try it on, her phone rings in her pocket and it's her mom, she picks up the phone "Hello" she says "I'm almost home honey, have you gotten ready, I'll soon be there, I'll help you out, do you like the dress oh and also I'll send his number to you so you don't have a hard time finding him and--" "mom!, slow down, text me when you're back" and with that the call ends. She goes to change and by the time she's out she sees her mom with makeup asking her to sit down and let her do her makeup.
When they were done with everything Wendy looked in the mirror and was amazed, 'when was the last time I dressed up like this' she thought. Her mom behind her thought the same thing "ah you look so beautiful darling, that idiot doesn't know what he's missing" she says, "speaking of him, are you sure you didn't tell anyone close to him about the date?" Wendy asks just to be sure, she had checked up on Kate yesterday as that was the only other person she was sure that knew of the date but Kate had relentlessly denied ever doing so. She gathers her things, says goodbye and leaves for the restaurant in a booked ride.
Kate had been extremely stressed out because she feared that Jake had overheard her conversation with Chris earlier because once Chris had left just about a minute later Jake had emerged from the street beside their house and had been seemingly mad ever since. She was sure with the time span and location that he had heard it, she felt he was close enough to hear them. But she acted like nothing was different with the atmosphere in case her worrying was for nothing.
That night Wendy had gotten to the restaurant and was escorted to a table where her date was waiting for her. ' he looks decent' she thinks as she arrives at the table. He was wearing a dark navy blue suit, with three buttons undone, he also looked like he came rushing form work. He has very dark gray green eyes, which compliment his dark curly hair, his lips are thin and have a slight natural pink to it.
Wendy sat at the table, and greeted her date for today. The man looked up to her and seemed to be really impatient about this. "Ok so let's just ummm, do whatever eat and go, I'm quite busy" the man said, Wendy looked at him and nodded, although it was quite weird she introduced herself to him and he did the same. His name was Sam Cruz and he was the general manager of Go flux a gaming company. They ate together and it was rather comfortable silence, only interacting when they need to pass each other things. Sam was starting to see that she wasn't like other women, most of them just tried to ease their way into his life more. "why aren't you saying anything?" he asks, she looks up at him "I want this to end as quickly as you do" she smiles at him for a second and then continues to eat.
They are done eating in no time. When they get to the lobby she goes outside as he's paying the bill, she calls a taxi and waits, Sam comes out of the building and stands beside her "I suppose that we would not be seeing each other anymore Miss Bryne" he states "well I'm pretty busy and I'm sure you're a busy man so I guess, we're not meant to be" she says then looks at him smiles and says "well my ride is here, goodbye MR. Cruz" she enters the car, he watches as the car leaves.
