No matter what the king cobra said, Sang Ye was steadfast in his refusal to follow him. The snake's eyes became narrow slits, and a dangerous glare was directed at the small female behind Sang Ye. "Are you rejecting a return to the demon tribe with me because of this little one? Have you two become close?" it inquired with a slow hiss.
Without hesitation, Sang Ye affirmed, "Yes."
Huanhuan could feel the icy chill emanating from the king cobra's gaze; it was so piercing, she thought her bones might freeze. Despite her trepidation—and aware that this serpent was Sang Ye's elder—Huanhuan summoned the courage to stutter an introduction, "H-Hello, I'm Huanhuan. Sang Ye and I are deeply in love. Please, feel welcome to visit our home as a guest, whenever it suits you. We would be honored."
The cobra's response was grim: "How can you be bold enough to invite a demon to your home? Do you not fear I might annihilate your entire family?"
