Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

"What have I done?" Dr. Kaito whispered internally as he lay on the floor grappling with the results of his experiments. "I only wanted her back; I never asked for any of this," he said in his head as tears rolled down his cheeks—not from pain but for what he had made her.

He could only watch as his guts were used to satisfy the hunger of the creature that was once his wife. He thought of fighting back, but his body failed him.

Then, suddenly SPLASH, as blood from the tearing of his guts covered his glasses, and he could only see the world in red. Looking around, he could only see shattered equipment from their initial struggles. He tried calling out for help, but his voice failed him.

In addition, the walls were soundproof, meaning that they was no one to help.

In that moment, the door opened. "Dr. Kaito, the test you ordered..." Seraphina's jaws dropped as she stood before a macabre scene. Her eyes widened with with fear

Aika, Dr Kaito's former wife now monster of undead abomination shifted her unliving gaze towards the the tantalizing figure that just into the lab, a new meal had entered her sight.

Seraphina's spine tingled with fear as she saw the abomination before her and she had seen the doctor's weirdest experiment, from a giant talking ear to a nose with multiple fingers that could play the piano, but this was the first time she was seeing an unalive being feeding on another breathing being.

In the moment she could only flashback to her mother's words telling her not work for this man but it was all in the past now.

Kneeling over the gut open centre of Dr Kaito was a creature with pale skin, eyes devoid of any humanity but with a tingling want for flesh, a strong stench of decay which made her stomach churn and an aura which made Seraphina instinctively feel like prey.

Aika came charging towards Seraphina with an odd eagerness before she could interpret the scenario in the room. Seraphina's adrenal glands released adrenaline into her circulation when her brain detected a threat, and as a result, she started to run like an Olympic gold medalist.

The sound of her screams, raw and primal and full of dread and astonishment, reverberated down the hallways, breaking the calm that followed the horrible scene she had just seen.

Upon hearing her shouts, the on-duty guards immediately acted, their expressions displaying a mixture of fear and urgency as they raced to the scene of the disturbance.

Seraphina raced rapidly behind the guards, feeling a little relieved to see them. "Stop right there, madame," a guard motioned while extending his hand to draw his firearm. if he was aware of it. Aika cut her hand across his throat and began to rend him apart before he could move again. The other guards just stared, horrified and nonplussed. They managed to grab their firearms despite their unsteady hands and fired at the thing in front of them.

Aika was lying on the ground after a few rounds. One of the guards sighed with relief and said, "What was that thing?"

Still frozen in disbelief, Seraphina was unable to speak. A guard discovered in the midst of all of this that Aika, who had been lying there only seconds before, had vanished. "Hey guys, is it just me, or did the body just disappear?" The moment he said that, the silence fell. Everyone there had a look of tension, anxiety, and perplexity on their faces.

The guard who had been slain earlier suddenly sprang to his feet. The viscera in his abdomen protruding. All eyes could only gape in disbelief as they recognised the same lifeless, human-less look in his eyes that Aika possessed.

As the guard approached them more closely, Seraphina became frightened and fled quickly. The freshly afflicted charged towards them as a result of this reaction. Unable to understand what was happening, the other guards also bolted to their feet, their cries resonating through the air in a chaotic chorus of fright and terror.

Dr. Kaito quickly became a part of the haunt. Their attempt to run was futile due to the infected's strength and speed, and the scenario quickly turned into a horrifying sight.

The only person who was fortunate enough to avoid the terrible outcome that was all but certain was Seraphina.

She crept into a quiet corner of the building's basement, hidden by strong barricades. She could hear the others' moans and pleas as they were ruthlessly torn apart and eaten from where she was hiding, but she was too busy to be brave because her survival was her first priority.

The infected found their way out of the building, attracted to the busy streets. Potential prey to satisfy their inhuman and insatiable hunger.

With the exit of the zombies, a deafening silence fell on Lab Zero's building.

Hesitant, Seraphina came out of her hiding place. The gruesome scenery in front of her made her throw up, but she knew she had no time to wait around as it would only take a few minutes for the bodies that lay on the floor to become infected and run wild from what she witnessed earlier.

So, she quickly set out to find a safe haven and warn as many people as she could of the danger that has been unleashed upon the streets of Kyoto.
