Chapter 30 - Spawn [1]

"What's wrong?" Isaac asked, confused about Orion's peculiar attitude.

"Kid, in a few minutes, Jasmine is going to walk into this room to document everything that happened in your Scenario."

Isaac raised an eyebrow.

"Why is that a bad thing?"

Orion sighed.

"This is going to take too long to explain." Orion held out his hand as he pointed to the wall behind Isaac.

"Look over there," Orion commanded, to which Isaac instinctively turned his head, only to be met with the white wall.

"There's nothing…"

Looking back, Isaac's eyes caught Orion still standing in the same position, only this time, he held a large helmet with goggles adorned on the front of it in his hand.

"Where did that come from?" Isaac asked sceptically, pointing toward the helmet.

"Don't worry about that." Orion walked toward Isaac as the boy's anxiety rose.

"Hey, wait a minute. What is that thing?" Isaac moved back.

"I'm not too sure myself. We use it for interrogations but I'm pretty sure it'll help you understand what I'm trying to say."

Orion raised the helmet to eye level as he inched closer to Isaac.

"Pretty sure? Get that away from me…!" Before Isaac could finish, he could barely resist as the helmet was forced upon him.

"Sorry, we don't have much time. I'm not supposed to have this, you see."

Those were the last words Isaac heard.

In an instant, all vision turned dark. However, it wasn't long until Isaac was left frozen as unfathomable amounts of information poured into his mind.

Images, names and people he'd never seen before. All sorts of knowledge flooded Isaac's mind, and after an unknown amount of time, the helmet was removed as Isaac dropped to his buttocks.

Taking a gasp of fresh air, Isaac looked around, finding himself beside a bed as Orion stood before him with a familiar helmet in his hands.

"W-Wha…how long has it been?" Isaac muttered, ignoring the searing headache he was experiencing.

"About twenty seconds. How are you feeling?"

Isaac widened his eyes.

He felt as if he'd experienced a few day's worth of knowledge being pumped into him, yet only twenty seconds had passed.

Rather than answering Orion's question, Isaac raised his head as if he'd realised something.

"Spawn!"

He yelled.

"Now do you understand?" Orion asked, to which Isaac rapidly nodded.

Spawn. That was the name of what the Inheritors called 'Home'.

No one knew whether it was a hidden island on earth, or even a completely different world altogether.

Isaac was only given basic knowledge of Spawn, yet it was enough to understand one thing.

One thing Orion was trying to warn him about.

In Spawn, one was respected based on their Strength or Inherited Character, however, one thing was far more valuable than the rest.

'Knowledge.'

I mean, why wouldn't it be?

It wasn't rare for more than one person to be summoned to one verse.

In fact, no one would bat an eye. Since any individual in said verse could become your character, it was common to see at least a few dozen people from the same verse.

However, what separated Inheritors from the same world, was a 'Timeline'.

Upon being summoned to their world, Inheritors would start a new Timeline. One which was unique to them and they shared with no other.

Therefore, if one had knowledge on any verse that could prove useful to an Inheritor during their quest, they could instantly become an important figure.

Wealth, power, influence.

For someone who held unknown knowledge about the whereabouts of a secret master in the mountains in a specific verse or an event that would happen in the future of a verse, they would be treated like nobles.

Therefore, for someone like Isaac who had uncovered the history of the Dark Continent, he'd be worshipped.

Why?

Because he was the first to accomplish such a feat.

No one knew a single thing about the Dark Continent other than its name.

'Shit.'

But there was one problem.

He most likely wouldn't live till the end of the week.

'I'd probably be kidnapped and tortured for everything I know, then killed.'

With a slight pause, Isaac looked toward Orion.

"I know what I have to do."

Just as he said this, the door to the room opened as a female wearing glasses and a black robe with her hair done up in a bun, held together by a long needle walked in.

"Isaac, I'm pleased to see you've survived your first Scenario." She held a clipboard with a pen, taking a seat before the boy.

"Hello." Isaac nodded with a simple smile.

"Are you ready to tell me everything that happened in your Scenario?" Jasmine asked with a smile.

After a slight pause, Isaac replied.

"Yes."

***

"Your quest was to participate in the Hunter's Exams, but you couldn't make it past the first round. Did I miss anything?"

Jasmine recounted what Isaac had told her in the past hour.

"No," Isaac answered simply.

"And it took you three months to do this?" Jasmine narrowed her eyes.

"Well, I also had to find my way to where the Exam was being held. That took the most time."

Isaac wore a poker face, looking back to Jasmine who stared daggers at him.

"And your completion rank was an F?" Jasmine asked.

The Lowest rank one could achieve. F Rank.

"Yes."

A slight pause enveloped the room.

"Well, I guess that makes sense," Jasmine spoke, the smile returning to her face as she stood from her seat.

"Thank you for your time, Isaac. Orion here will take over."

Watching Jasmine leave the room, Isaac stared at her.

At that moment, he was thankful for the Zobae Disease. Because he was using all his Nen to suppress the Thing inside him, he fluctuated with no power whatsoever.

He was no different to a regular human.

At least, that's what onlookers thought.

'I think I sold it well enough. Although, her face… She seemed disappointed.'

Isaac understood why.

After all, he just learned he is the first Wanderer to survive their first Scenario in Decades.

'I guess she was hoping for more.'

As she left, Isaac inwardly grinned.

This was good.

Throughout his life, he'd never gotten used to the feeling of being looked down upon.

However, he also knew he could use this as a tool. If one underestimated him, they'd have no expectation.

This element of surprise always gave him an advantage in his scams.

Isaac didn't know whether or not he ever wanted to reveal the things he knew.

But if he decided one day to do exactly that, it would be a day he was powerful enough to be feared.

"Your ability to lie through your teeth without hesitation is frightening," Orion commented, to which Isaac smiled and took a small bow.

"Change into these and meet me outside when you're done."

Orion pointed toward a change of clothes Jasmine brought in with her, stepping out of the room and leaving Isaac by himself.

Looking at himself, he still wore the valet's uniform from his scam three months ago.

"I miss my jacket."

***

Stepping out of a room, Isaac, wearing a simple black hoodie, form-fitting jeans and bulky red sneakers, set his eyes on Orion and Jasmine who stood before a Senkaimon.

"It's nice to see you out of those worn-out clothes, Isaac." Jasmine smiled.

"Yeah, you look almost as good as I do," Orion commented, to which both Jasmine and Isaac both glared at him.

"Lemme guess, you're so lazy you somehow found a way to wear the same outfit every day," Isaac replied as the two adults stayed quiet for a few seconds.

"Pfft!" Jasmine snorted as she tried her best to hold back her laughter.

But it wasn't long until she failed in doing so.

"See, it's f-funny…because it's true," Jasmine spoke in between her laughter.

Meanwhile, Orion wore a face of unamusement, soon changing the subject.

"Very funny. Hurry up and get in the portal." Orion spoke, pointing to the Senkaimon.

"Where is it going to take me?"

Jasmine, returning to her usual self, replied.

"To Spawn. Well, to Aurelius Academy more specifically."

'Aurelius, huh?'

Aurelius Academy. A school for young Inheritors to grow stronger, and a place Isaac had learnt through the helmet Orion had forced onto him.

Although, he only knew the basic information about it.

Despite this, he didn't mind the Academy.

As long as he had a roof over his head and free food, there wasn't much more Isaac cared about.

"Aren't you going to ask what Aurelius is?" Jasmine asked, seeing Isaac's silence.

"Huh? Well, I already know. I learnt it from the he…" Before Isaac could finish, Orion, standing behind Jasmine, waved his hand frantically.

As if trying to signal something.

Orion did this with his usual straight face, which made the scene all the more hilarious for Isaac.

It was then Isaac remembered something.

'Hmm, such power. I'm not sure what to do.'

After a few seconds, Isaac answered.

"Well, you said Academy. I'm assuming it's a school for Inheritors." Isaac spoke, to which Jasmine soon nodded.

"Ah, how silly of me. Yes, you'd be correct." Jasmine chuckled.

Walking past her, toward the Senkaimon, Isaac shifted closer to Orion.

Without warning, he leapt onto the man, hugging him tightly.

"You owe me one," Isaac whispered.

It's as if he could hear a faint grumbling from Orion as he released him, turning his head to Jasmine.

"Thank you, Ms Jasmine. I hope to see you again soon."

Isaac bowed slightly.

"Uh, yes. You too." Jasmine replied, slightly confused as to what she'd just seen.

Turning around, Isaac faced the Senkaimon.

'Spawn. Meet the greatest Con Man to ever live.'

Isaac grinned as he leapt through the Senkaimon, disappearing into the blinding white void.

As he did, silence erupted between Orion and Jasmine as they stared at the closing Senkaimon.

"The two of you have really gotten close, huh?" Jasmine spoke, breaking the silence.

"Yeah…" Orion replied in a defeated tone.
