Chereads / Comedian in Eastern Paradise / Chapter 2 - Resolve

Chapter 2 - Resolve

It was a beautiful day in gensokyo. Fairies were playing around, and humans were labouring away. Hidden away from all the activity, rested a short man with pale, ash colored hair. Fitted in a blue jacket, white shirt, and black shorts, the man almost gave off the impression of a teenager if it weren't for his sharp jawline, and the stubble on his chin.

As a gentle breeze passed by, the man awoke with a startle. His black eyes briefly observed his surroundings and quickly adopted a very confused expression.

"And that makes it fourty... Nine...?"

He was surprised to see that instead of the golden hall that he had become so intimately familiar with, he was surrounded with oak trees. Not the pine he had associated with Snowdin, but oak.

"So already, nowhere that I know of. Off to a good start."

Groggily standing up on his pink slippers, he took a couple of steps forward and flinched when he felt warmth on his skin.

Yeah, skin.

"Wha..?"

Looking down at his once boney hands, he was surprised to find them, and the rest of his body, wrapped in what he previously knew as flesh. Pale, white flesh.

"Well then..."

Sans was getting more confused by the second. First, he woke up somewhere other than judgement hall. Second, he's somewhere he's never been before, which doesn't make sense considering he's been about everywhere in the underground. And now, theres flesh on him.

And it wasn't just flesh, it was his flesh. Pulling it proved that it was attached to him. And supposedly, if what he read about humans was true, his skeleton was underneath.

"This is so weird. How is this all happening? Where am I? Wheres the kid?" He muttered to nobody in particular.

He's pretty sure he died. The only way he could be standing right now, is if the human reset. So then wheres the human?

Feeling a headache coming, he decided to stop thinking so hard. "First things first, find out where I am." Having pulled himself together, he started walking.

"Things are pretty crazy right now, and there's too many things to go over," he muttered to himself. "But it's not too bad. After all, I'm alive and kickin, AND I'm fully fleshed out. Can't say if that's good thing though."

Seeing an open area ahead, he picked up his pace.

"Wherever I am, I have a feeling I'm far from home. Hell, I can't even feel any of my shortcuts."

Finally reaching an open area, sans looked up, and his heart stopped.

"...VERY far from home, huh...?"

He was blinded by the sun shining with all its might. He could only stare, captivated by it's glorious splendor.

.....

....

...

..

.

Sans had been walking for a while now, and he slowly got used to his human body. Normally he could only walk for a couple minutes before "needing" a break, he's pretty lazy after all.

But now it was different. He had been walking for 1-2 hours now, and while he was pretty exhausted, he could still go on. He had a feeling this had to do with his new body.

"Did I gain the stamina of a human or sumthin? I definitely couldn't go this long before. Maybe there's something up with my stats."

As he said this, his sclera went black, and his left iris flashed blue. Suddenly a screen popped up in front of him, and his eyes widened in shock.

Immediately Sans looked at his stats with great curiosity. Sans' stats had never gone up before, no matter what he tried. The fragility of his soul locked all of his stats at 1.

He was even more confused because his stats always displayed his name as 'Sans the Skeleton'. This usually never changes, And when it does, its when a monster goes through a significant biological/mental change.

(AN: think 'Flowey the Flower' > 'Asriel Dreemur'

Or 'Undyne' > 'Undyne the Undying'

That kind of Mental/Biological change.)

Sans wondered if the name change was caused by his mentality change on the brink of death, or his sudden humanization.

Sans, however, was slightly more concerned about how his stats went up. Sans had never killed anyone besides the kid. If his LV rose, it would never last due to frisk resetting.

...

Did frisk even reset?

While sans was sincerely hoping she didn't, it just wouldn't make sense. While frisk was certainly a high LV,  gaining so much EXP from one kill was impossible. The only other way to gain so much EXP in one go is to-

His eyes went black with concern, and with a swiftness, summoned his soul, and was shocked for the... second...? Third. Third time that day.

His soul looked fine, no cracks, no deformities, nothing. It would have been a normal monster soul

had it not been right side up.

It was a human's soul, but it was white like a monsters

Sans could only look on in pure disbelief. He absorbed frisk's soul.

He doesn't remember when, but he did somehow. It explains his physical change, as well as his status change. But something is off.

"Doesn't it look a little different from this?"

Indeed, from what he's seen in pre-war textbooks, it looks very different. The books showed a human soul within a monster soul. But his, rather than showing both souls, merges their qualities.

How was the merging of souls so complete, so thorough?

Sans' brain was almost fried, so he plopped down against a tree. He watched the sun approaching the horizon and the sky began to darken, as he was once again reminded that he was on the surface.

'honestly, I can't even be happy about it. There's too much going on, everything is so confusing.' Sans thought.

He rubbed his temples, flinching at the feel of his skin. The soreness reminded him of his assistant scientist days. Leaning back against the tree, he could feel his body soften.

But as the sleepy judge begins to doze off, he starts to see visions of red and gold.

His eyes go black, and feels his new found muscles tense up.

'Well then...'

He had been trying to avoid thinking about it, but he really had nothing left. He had no friends, no family and no home. Now he was being dumped on the surface all alone, stuck in the middle of who knows where, and told "go get 'em champ!"

He didn't even know where people were.

Sighing harshly, sans held his head, as he realized he had no idea what he was doing.

Hell, he was free! The human was gone for good, and there would, presumably, be no more resets. And yet here he is about to die to hunger. What a joke.

"There's hunger too huh...

!"

As the dark thoughts started flooding in, he suddenly became inspired.

"I think I'm losing my rind."

Here we go.

"It's really bananas what's happening to me right now. You'd think this situation was im-pasta-ble. This new freedom ain't all it cracked up to be. And now I'm bone Tired, and just about bready to go to sleep."

His tiredness finally loosened the dam enough to release his punny load all at once, and he began to laugh up a storm. Following the food theme,

"Before, I wasn't peeling too well, but it's honestly not that big of a dill, heheheheh. The quality of my puns may berry greatly, pfft, but you have to admit, I'm on a roll, hehehehe! Things are bad, but it could always be wurst, hahahaha. I'll make ends meat somehow, lolololol."

At this point, sans is laughing like a lunatic. It takes him minutes to stop giggling. Finally calming down, sans leaned back looking very proud of himself. Having fought off the dark thoughts with the power of puns sans remembered his vow. He would live, he would try, he would stay DETERMINED.

Papyrus would want him to.

Sighing, he looked up and saw the sun get low and the sky get dark. Sans couldn't help but stare at the sight of his first ever sunset, glorious, and shining. As if celebrating Sans' promise.

With that image burned into his brain, sans let himself drift to the land of dreams.

Unaware.

That his soul lit ablaze with DETERMINATION
