"Wh-why?" Zarniya asked curiously, leaning towards him as her eyes shone brighter.
Messiah coughed into his hand, avoiding her inquisitive gaze. He liked it so much when her eyes were only looking at him, but it was bad for his composure. He clenched his jaw and inhaled deeply to calm his racing heart.
"Why?" he asked, feigning confusion, without turning to look at her.
"Hm-m! Wh-why?" Zarniya nodded at him, even though she wasn't looking directly at him.
"What do you mean, why, Niya?" He glanced at her briefly and continued walking.

They arrived at the dining hall, where he directed her to her usual chair at the far end of the table. He assisted her with the chair and then sat beside her.
