Alexa took a deep breath after that. For some reason, she always felt that the man who claimed to be her husband was dangerous. His smile carried an obsession that Alexa couldn't describe. Alexa may have lost her memory. But, she believes her instincts are still working properly.
CLACK!
Alexa flinched when the door to her room was opened again. Dominic came back in carrying a pile of files and newspapers in his hand. Dominic kept all of it on the table in the room before gesturing for Alexa to see what he brought.
Curious, Alexa got out of bed to see what pile of files Dominic was carrying. Her pupils immediately constricted as she read word by word written on the front shelf in her hand.
"Past Trauma Syndrome Disorder and Depression... So, basically, you want to say that I'm crazy to have to live in the middle of nowhere like this?" Alexa said coldly. Dominic didn't answer. Instead, the man took out two letters from the pile of files.
"We are officially married, Lexa. This is proof of our marriage if you still don't believe what I said before. We were all fine until the news that you were cheating on me with someone else suddenly appeared on TV. You started to change since then. You became angry and started to enjoy endangering yourself. You didn't even give me a chance to ask for the truth about the news. You just asked me to throw out all the journalists and move to this remote place."
Dominic let out a sad sigh before continuing his words.
"But at certain times, you will scream as if I locked you in the house. The day you fell was the same. I just didn't want you to be reckless again out there but you rebelled like I was restricting your movements. But seeing you now is fine now, you're free to go out whenever you want, Baby. Take Rika with you when you go out. She'll help you when your feet start to hurt again."
Alexa raised her eyebrows. How did Dominic know her legs always hurt if they were put on weight for too long?
Dominic slowly lifted Alexa's nightgown, stopping at her knees when Alexa slapped his hand away with a warning look.
"What are you-"
"Your knee was injured in the past, Baby. You can't walk too far, or your condition will get worse. Rika is a good girl. You can tell her anything if I'm not around."
Not letting Alexa misunderstand, Dominic gently stroked Alexa's knee, which had faint stitch marks. Feeling that Dominic had no evil intentions and that her status was truly this man's wife, Alexa let Dominic touch her knee with great care. Dominic might just be a strange loving husband type, Alexa tried to conclude that.
However, even after Alexa greeted him coldly and didn't believe him, Dominic still put on that affectionate face. It didn't seem fair that Alexa considered him an enemy just because she lost her memory and was locked up there. Without memory, Alexa could only assume that all of Dominic's statements were true, especially since Alexa saw for herself that in her room, she actually had a lot of anti-depressants.
Well, she just cheated on her husband and lost her memory because of her stupidity. Alexa summarizes her situation more based on what she hears and sees at the moment.
Alexa gently stroked Dominic's palm, making the man surprised by her treatment.
"Why could I cheat at that time? I betrayed you, but I was the one who was depressed at that time. Am I a selfish fool?" whispered Alexa. Dominic shook his head at her question. He cupped Alexa's hand, looking at her with a very sincere gaze.
"No. It was my fault that I was rarely next to you and was busy with my work. You wanted children, but I didn't give them to you. I promise Lexa, I will fix it from now on," Dominic promised seriously. Alexa took a deep breath. How silly could she be in the past?
"There's no need to rush. Let's get to know each other better slowly. With my blank memory, there are still many things I have to confirm with my own eyes," said Alexa. Dominic nodded, smiling broadly as he rose to his feet.
"Thank God you understand. We'll get to know each other slowly, okay? It's already late. You should go back to sleep, Lexa."
Alexa nodded. Sleepiness was starting to attack her again.
"I'll sleep in our room upstairs. With your current condition... I don't think you'll be comfortable if we sleep in the same bed," said Dominic. Alexa nodded honestly. Dominic was still a stranger to her for now.
"Then, good night, Lexa," said Dominic.
"Good night," replied Alexa as she ushered Dominic out of her room. The door closed again, and Alexa took a deep breath. Her head hurt after receiving several pieces of information in one night.
Turning off the night light, Alexa continued sleeping in the dark.
