Chereads / Climbing The Well / Chapter 45 - Fired - Part2

Chapter 45 - Fired - Part2

- I thought the barrier was stronger, I miscalculated... - Hearing Arthur's shout, the man who had been called a rat earlier muttered.

- It's night two, her power according to one comes from the sun and now there's no ray of sunshine, right? - The woman with the more developed body said as she stopped attacking and watched the sphere of light.

- So how does it still have power if it's night? - The other woman asked still staring at the sphere of light, even though they were more relaxed now their vision didn't leave the sphere of light for even a second; to Maria they were just strong and annoying, but when they fought her they gave it their all, and it was four against one, and that one was carrying a child on his back, so even though they managed to hurt her their attention remained unwavering, they just longed for their conversation to buy time for their boss.

- She's a contractor for a god, logic doesn't have to be exact either five. - The man with the most muscular build replied with obvious sarcasm in his voice.

- You're right four... - Five nodded as he continued to observe the sphere.

Inside the sphere of light Maria was kneeling waiting for her wound to heal, she knew that Arthur had been hurt, but she couldn't do anything about it at the moment and preferred not to even touch the subject, while she was trying to recover, she heard the coyote's voice again.

- You did well to hold her. - After he said this, the surrounding shadows began to move and contort, forming a kind of dome that crept up to cover everyone present. - Clare is close, but I've already finished the portal, so get ready.

Just as the shadows were about to cover everyone present, the sphere of light shone with such intensity that it looked like daylight on all the nearby streets, and the expansion of the light continued as the sphere grew and pushed the shadows away, Maria who was inside the sphere had both hands stretched upwards as if she was pushing something, her expression was distorted, making it obvious how much force she was exerting and how much pain she was feeling at the moment, in addition to her distorted expression she had blood dripping from her nostrils and her left eye, even a part of her sclera was reddened, and despite her sorry state she wasn't screaming and was just staring at the shadows that were trying to enter the light she was creating.

- You always give me a headache... - Said the man known as Coyote in a trembling voice, inside the mask he looked just as bad as Maria, no, he looked worse, since in addition to his nostrils and left eye, there was also blood dripping from his right eye as well as from his ears, but strangely his expression seemed dozens of times more relaxed than Mary's.

- Go... Fuck... Hell... - Maria wanted to shout at him, but all that came out was a whisper that was not heard by anyone and even if it was, she knew it wouldn't change anything, but in her situation, she just said what she wanted even if it was useless.

- Two. - Coyote said in a trembling voice.

- Yes, one. - The man still holding the rifle behind his back replied.

- I wish I didn't need help, but... That woman is incredibly annoying... Can you help me?

- Of course, I'll avoid killing the boy, but I can't guarantee anything...

- If you kill him, I'll kill you too. - When Coyote said this, her voice wasn't shaking, she sounded extremely calm. - I didn't do this shitty mission and I'm trying so hard, for a bum who doesn't want to try to screw everything up...

- ...Right, I'll put him to sleep, but...

- But?

- I don't think we have time... - He said this while looking up at the sky in the direction the coyote was facing. In the sky, purple lightning, and something similar to fire, also purple in color, were rapidly approaching.

 - What the hell! Three ask the support team to stop covering up and hold her off now! - Coyote yelled at the other man who was helping to pressure Maria earlier.

- Right! - The man raised his arm and a holographic screen appeared in front of him, as soon as the screen appeared it showed four people in the image, two people were holding a large black box in front of the mansion they were currently fighting in, this box emitted a very faint blue light that was all around the mansion one was in front of them holding a rifle identical to number two and the last man was sitting right in front of the holographic projection, they were all dressed the same as the other five.

- Can we go? - The man in front of the projection asked with some apprehension.

- Not yet we need you to hold Clare for a few more minutes. - Number three's voice echoed.

- Sigh, so we're being discarded... Right! We'll do our best, but I doubt we'll last more than a minute with her... - The man said with a shaky voice.

- ...Understood, good luck... - Number three replied before the hologram disappeared.

-...Seven, eight and nine destroy the equipment, we have to secure Clare for the first team.

- ... - The three of them stood in silence just looking at the thunder and purple flames approaching in the distance, the two men who had been protecting the equipment so far let white flames rise from their hands and just a few seconds later, whole scene in the street changed, the dark and silent place changed, and although it was low it was possible to hear the sound similar to what flames would produce in a bonfire, but that wouldn't catch anyone's attention, what would really impress anyone looking out of the window now was the huge sphere of light that was pushing a kind of black goo.

Clare, who was running with a little girl on her back, looked at the scene and her already enraged expression distorted to the extreme, but before she did anything she sighed and touched the girl's head. - Honey, I need you to take a nap for now. - Without waiting for the girl's reply, a purple light came out of her left palm, which was over the girl's head, and covered her body. The girl slept the instant she was surrounded by the light and as soon as the girl slept, a purple cocoon formed around her; after a kind of cocoon had formed and attached itself to her back perfectly, she looked at the center of the sphere of light and her expression became totally distorted, but instead of shouting, she said in a low tone. - I'm going to kill them this time. - and then she sped up even more.

- You can't follow... - While Clare was looking only at the center of the sphere, a group of four people appeared and blocked the way. Clare stopped her momentum and looked at the figures, normally she would just ignore them and move on, but with Sophie at her back that option didn't exist, even with the protection placed over her it would be dangerous if an attack was directed specifically at her, frowning, and gritting her teeth she said. - If you go now, I'll pretend I didn't see you today.

The scene was silent for several seconds before the man in front sighed and replied. - Unfortunately, we're here to die, so even if your offer is tempting, I'll be forced to turn it down, miss.

- So be it. - As soon as Clare said this a sea of flames followed by thunder and a strong gale were incited towards the group of men. 'Hold on a minute Maria, no, just thirty seconds I'll be finished in thirty seconds so please...' Clare thought as she flew towards the group who were trying to defend themselves from the attacks directed earlier; Clare approached the group and stared at them with her glowing purple eyes, and as they tried to defend themselves she raised her hand to the sky, the wind increased and tapered off, becoming similar to a tornado, but strangely this tornado was harmless to everyone outside and only the air inside this funnel became violent. The foursome were horrified as they stared at the figure in front of them with her red hair fluttering in the wind and an emotionless gaze staring at them with the glowing ones, they wanted to run and reposition themselves, but they had to use all their strength to wrap the equipment with enough energy to stop the strong wind from knocking them over and only thanks to this did they manage to hold on, but this only lasted until they noticed a strange energy permeating Clare's body.

- With the authority of Loki, I order a rain of flames accompanied by the wrath of Thor! - After Clare's shout caught the attention of those who were trying to protect her battle suit, they looked at her, and were surprised by the purple aura that covered her entire body, as well as her eyes that glowed, but soon something else caught the attention of the three who had just turned their attention away from protecting her suit. They looked at their captain and the man with the rifle known as seven and saw that both of them weren't looking at Clare or worrying about their suits which were already starting to get damaged, instead they were just looking up, due to the helmet that came with the suit it was impossible for them to see their expressions so they just casually looked up, But when they did, they put the defense of their suits aside as well, one of them didn't even keep looking up and just bowed his head as he deeply regretted volunteering for today's mission, the one who bowed his head remembered the last words he had left for his friend. . - Relax man, even if Clare is so amazing we're at nine! Maybe she'll even get killed in one go today Ahaha! - 'After what I saw I finally understood my friend's sarcastic expression, really? I thought I'd kill something like that because there were nine people? If it had been ninety, it would have been the same!!!' After thinking that this was the end, the man resigned himself and looked up again.

- ... Well, even if it is the end... At least it's a nice view... - Tears flowed from beneath his mask as he watched with a self-deprecating smile; in his helmet the reflection of the scene was incredible the sky was flooded with purple and orange flames dancing non-stop with various purple lightning bolts the thickness of his torso snaking through the flames at every moment, and both the flames and the lightning became more frantic by the moment and just a little over twenty seconds after Clare declared her attack it was possible to see torrents of flames descending in the tornado while lightning struck the men who were still trying to capture Maria.

"This is already the second chapter where the last paragraph has disappeared when viewed on cell phones. To avoid this, I've decided to duplicate this message at the end of each chapter, hoping it will resolve the issue. If you're reading this, I apologize if it's intrusive, but it's a better solution than leaving the chapter incomplete."
