- ... Well, even if it is the end... At least it's a nice view... - Tears flowed from beneath his mask as he watched with a self-deprecating smile; in his helmet the reflection of the scene was incredible the sky was flooded with purple and orange flames dancing non-stop with various purple lightning bolts the thickness of his torso snaking through the flames at every moment, and both the flames and the lightning became more frantic by the moment and just a little over twenty seconds after Clare declared her attack it was possible to see torrents of flames descending in the tornado while lightning struck the men who were still trying to capture Maria.
The moment the man saw the frenzy of flames heading in his direction he felt an intensity of heat that he didn't think was possible to produce, he prepared himself to feel the greatest pain he would ever feel in his life, but before he was even mentally prepared everything simply fell silent, all four of them disappeared as soon as the flames touched them, there were no screams or wails from them and not even their ashes were left and they didn't even look as if they had been burnt, it was more as if someone had used an eraser in an editing program; Clare, who had just erased the lives of these men, looked on with a look of disinterest and headed towards where her rays were falling, she only spoke when she had passed the place where the man she had blocked was standing. - This is the expected end of anyone dumb enough to accept a pact... - After saying this, she accelerated towards the sphere that was no longer being attacked by the shadows that were now trying to disperse or redirect the rays she had cast.
- FUCK!!! What the fuck! They didn't make it a single minute! - The man known as Coyote shouted with obvious panic in his voice as he used all his shadows to push lightly in the direction of the thunder, but even with all his strength he barely managed to push five and his arms and legs were already shaking, he wasn't even thinking about completing his mission, his only concern was how to escape and try to take as much with him as possible, but to his dismay when he looked to the side he saw a tornado of flames where the team he had asked to hold Clare should be and before he could even turn around he saw Clare's figure flying with a purple aura around her, fear and panic seized his being at that moment and the idea of taking anyone with him vanished immediately, he didn't even signal for his team to retreat and just took off the cover of shadows he had made to help his team and created a kind of armor around himself before a door of shadows appeared; when the others saw the door appear they all turned and ran towards it without saying a word except for the man who was carrying a rifle and was called two, he landed on the ground and aimed his gun at the cocoon on Clare's back and at the same time as a bolt of lightning hit him the shot forced Clare to create a wall of flames to stop the bullet's advance, and unfortunately, after his wall of flames had been dispersed, the man who had shot him had disappeared and all that remained was a rifle with a partially destroyed barrel, especially the end of its barrel which seemed to have been blown off from the inside, leaving the metal twisted and in tatters with some red and half-melted parts.
- That gun... Those rifles weren't that strong... - Clare said as she looked at the bullet in her hand, the bullet that was shrouded in a black mist, she was surprised that this bullet had managed to pierce her wall of flames and even cut through half of the barrier she had placed over her body, she was sure that no rifle these days had that much power, if not, why would humans be so oppressed that many signed contracts with demons? Clare's confused thoughts lasted a few more moments until she heard a loud creak, a sound similar to that of an old door and turned to where the other three were heading, and what she saw made her furious again, she recognized that door as one of demonic abilities that some contractors receive, and then looking at the bullet she realized that it had the energy of a demon in it.
- And those sons of... Weren't you happy to sign a contract, and even hand over our technology for them to study too!? - Clare shouted with obvious anger in her voice and attacked with countless bolts of lightning as she approached with all her might; His attacks managed to delay the other three, but the man known as Coyote was already through the door so even though his lightning was powerful he could just close the door and everything would be fine, at least that's what he hoped, but before he could close the door he felt a wave of unbearable heat on his back that made him scream and unable to close the door immediately he looked back and saw a hole in the sphere of light where Maria who had an unconscious little boy on her back was smiling at him with her right hand outstretched towards him.
- You son of a - Shit! - He looked up and saw lightning and a torrent of flames coming towards him, he should have been able to avoid most of them, but there was one that was about to hit him and all he could do was shout a name - Gorgo!!!
Just as the lightning was about to strike his back the shadow took the form of jaws and swallowed him before returning to the body of the man who got up to close the door, but before the door was completely closed, he looked at Maria and shouted. - I'll remember that you bastard! - Without waiting for an answer, he closed the door, which disappeared instantly.
- Fuck you... - Maria muttered as she held up the middle finger of her right hand and held back the blood that threatened to rise from her throat.
Clare looked at where the man was before turning to the others who had been abandoned, they didn't even try to run away after the door disappeared none of them did anything, there was no movement from any of them and all the helmets mirrored the same image just from different angles of the same landscape which was where the door had previously been. Clare didn't even look at the three who were down, she just directed a torrent of flames at them that turned them into nothing in the same way as the four who tried to stop her, after incinerating them she turned and flew to the ground until she stopped in front of Maria.
- I was worried, but seeing your... state of mind, I think you're going to be fine... - Clare said, smiling at Maria as she picked up her cell phone.
Maria used all her strength to put Arthur down and then lay down as well, gasping for air and looking around with a smile on her face. Clare looked at her and Arthur's situation while waiting for the call to connect and her previous smile had disappeared while there was an obvious look of irritation on her face.
Today and tomorrow's chapters will be shorter as I focus on organizing my other book, with a larger one set to launch on Saturday.
"This is already the second chapter where the last paragraph has disappeared when viewed on cell phones. To avoid this, I've decided to duplicate this message at the end of each chapter, hoping it will resolve the issue. If you're reading this, I apologize if it's intrusive, but it's a better solution than leaving the chapter incomplete."
